I just replaced the gimbal bearing in my boat. I am running a gen 2 alpha. before the out drive was pulled everything worked as it should. Now when I start the engine i hear a noise from the lower unit like it is partially in gear and the prop turns more than usual in neutral. It shifts into forward but makes a little more noise than i think it should. When I try to shift into reverse it is difficult and the engine stalls. if I have the engine shut off and put it in reverse i can turn the prop in both directions. I made sure that it was in forward when removing and installing the drive and made sure everything lined up when going back in. Somebody please tell me what you think may be wrong before i continue pulling the rest of my hair out.
