Help re-installing the Engine mount hardware on rebuilt motor mounts

I've tried various searches but not really found what I'm looking for. I have a 5.7L Mercruiser engine and Alpha One, Gen II outdrive. The boat needed transom work, and while I pulled the engine found that one of the issues was a busted up motor mount.

I may be over thinking this, but I had the mount and transom rebuilt....and before I go back in with the engine I wanted to think through the game plan. Because the engine mounts have been rebuilt, the engine mount hardware has to be re-installed into the mount. What's the best way to do this, and ensure that I don't mess up the location of the engine. I would think that the holes drilled in the transom for the transom plate have some tolerance (the guys who did the repair are a marine repair facility who do this day in and out). My concern is making sure that I don't personally mess up the progress by missing something simple. I want to ensure that both bow to stern and starboard to port I don't mess up the install. I had thought about picking the engine up in the area and building a template based on the engine feet location. Then placing that template on the motor mounts...marking the locations for the hardware.

Am I missing something or over thinking the process?

I welcome any wisdom.

Just me, but i would........ Get an alignment bar first step..... bolt engine mounts to motor and run them up about 3/4" to 1/2" further then origanaly set......then rig in motor. Place motor on transom mounts, this will set your (side to side)..tighten down bolts.

Then start with your alignment (up and down) with your bar.....use your chain hoist for this...once set then adjust mounts to touch new wood....... lower and let off hoist.....THEN RECHECK WITH ALIGNMENT BAR...if all good then mark your holes...unbolt mounts off motor...drill holes.... insert 3-M 5200 in holes and reinstall mounts on motor...install lag bolts in wood...... and recheck alignment.

This is proly a crude method and not the book method...but it's a way to do it.

Good Luck!

Thanks guys - I didn't think it was possible without the alignment bar either. But was hoping to be able to get them in place...and then let someone more qualified do the actual alignment.

I'm considering it - I have someone who would loan or rent out his alignment bar. I just don't want to mess up what has been done. I'm trying to wrap my head around what should be secured and torqued down on the transom end? Is it okay to secure that end and make all the adjustments at the engine or do I need the ability to adjust that mounting as well?
