Hey!!! I gave you those in your previous thread... :D

Thanks, Chris! I'm scouring through both, but they are different somewhat. I am very appreciative of all the digging and giving from you and Don. I am a simple man, surfing among THE GODS!!!;)

This shows how to hook up your distributor.
Now to put your alternator in it.

I need to pick your knowledgE, AGAIN.The grey tach wire coming from the engine harness will go to the negative coil terminal, but what do I connect the other end of the kill toggle switch that was connected to the auto HEI distributor? Please see former posted pic attached for reference. Thank you!old distributor wire setup.jpg

Bond-O previously helped me out also by posting... The wire with the toggle switch, should be switched power from the Keyswitch... But again, one end will be connected to the toggle switch post, but the other end will get connected to??? Originally was on HEI distributor (right-side on pic.) Thanks!!

What are you calling a "Kill toggle switch" ??????

Looks exactly like the switch in pic and goes in the hole that the red arrow points at... Switch down (off) to kill the engine when running regardless of ignition (key) position and engine won't start unless in the upright (on) position. The wire from the HEI distributor went to one of the toggle switch posts. But now I'm wondering where it connects given the replacement with a FlameThrower distributor and new coil.Kill switch location.jpgonofftoggle.jpgold distributor wire setup.jpg

Best thing to do is throw out the toggle switch and if you want a safety switch, put a lanyarded switch in, then just run it in series with the RUN (purple) wire from the ignition switch. It's going to be easier to get everything back to standard rather than trying to adapt new parts the old codged up system....

One of these three do you recommend?

I like a toggle ignition kill switch better than the plunger style. The toggle switch can be used without the lanyard attached, while the plunger style needs to have the lanyard clip inserted for the engine to run. Safety wise, it's not good to use the toggle style ignition cut-off switch with out the lanyard attached, but I would rather have the option in case the lanyard gets misplaced, broken, whatever.

That's the style Merc use on their outboard control boxes... I've never seen one fail... Johnson/Evinrude on the other hand, use a plunger style, with a rubber cap... The rubber gets a bit old and the plunger pushes out a few more thou and now you have an engine that doesn't start... Seen that PLENTY of times.... Many boats get towed in each year with just that poxy bit of rubber that stopped them.......

But I re-iterate my previous... Get everything back to 'book standard', THEN start worrying about the electrical hook-up....

Thanks! Curious as to *Note 1 though... I saw a couple of these configurations when tearing out the previous previous mess. What is the purpose of a screw/hex nut connection versus just running straight wire??? Love to learn. Interesting... What is your take on applying the black liquid tape to clean connections when ready? Thx.

Nothing wrong with a straight wire, but some of the controls came with wires made into the switch, the eyes were just a way of hooking the wires together.
