Re: HELP!

yeah, pictures would be great!
Good days work ,well done and I bet it feels great. 2 coats of poly should be fine. As for the floor 1-2 layers depending on how well you coat it and how much flex is in the floor. I used 1 layer of slightly heavier cloth than you, but my stringer/crossmember layout allowed me to have very little flex, which was great.

cheers

Re: HELP!

Hey tengals, Your stringer setup is WAY more advanced then mine so I hope mine will be good enough to last this season. It does feel great...especially today after gettin the floor done ,stringers and corners.

My work is HOPEFULLY almost done. I am hoping to get more poly tomorrow and ALOT more cloth..the mat is AWFUL to work with and from wut I hear, cloth is stronger?

Re: HELP!

hey guys, sorry but I have been crazy busy, sometimes life gets in the way of fishing and that upsets me:(
but I have completed the boat and have taken it out on lake ontario a few times and up near orangeville. Its been great so far. It has a slow leak that could be from the previous patch jobs done by one someone else but we'll find it:)

Fixed the trailer, boat launches smoothly. Trailer still riding awesome. All lights are functional as well.

motor runs great, although I had to hit the reverse button to get it going forward, and the reverse doesn;t work(forward button). I switched the wires in the control panel and have yet to try it out. Any ideas on how to fix the reverse AMD?I also fixed the steering, very easy fix.

This boat is EXACTLY what I was looking for, the price was unbeatable and the help from the previous owner was awesome to say the least.
Thanks to all on here who helped me get this boat floating and taught me alot about how to get the job done, it is much appreciated.

Quick question..how much water is too much water or something to worry about taking on? My boat is a 15 foot fibreglass bowrider...I luv my new(old) boat,,lol

Re: HELP!

hmm, well I get a couple of cups full if I sit in the water without moving long. i would say 30mins and I have about a cup full maybe a little more. Does that sounds like immediate danger and should be fixed?

thanks again tengals... :)

Re: HELP!

Is your plug new? It's very common to have the plug leak some, check it and get a couple of spares. When you take the boat out of the water and it's dry, check for any water around old repairs, maybe just a damp surface is all you will see. Somtimes a slow leak can be hard to locate.

Re: HELP!

Great story. But I am even more curious about the rating assignment. Anyone who can enlightment me on that? Who assigns it? Does it increase with the money you spend? How do you get into OCS.

Re: HELP!

plugs ok, leak doesn;t seem so bad today. I do have some scratches and dings in the hull.I am sure one of them may be the culprit. There is also a hairline crack in the hull along the bottom near the back of the boat. Could this be the problem? Thanks guys!

Re: HELP!

Re: HELP!

nope, no discoloration or residue. It dry's up nice too. I don't think that its all the way through but I could be VERY wrong.

Re: HELP!

I had six very painfull back breaking stringers, but thats not the point. :)

When you put your motor back on, did you seal the bolts really well? I like 3m5200, it seals like crazy. You could be getting some seepage from the bolt holes. That crack could be crazing in the gelcoat. What I would do is grind the crack out and repair it. You may find that the fiberglass underneath is deteriorating. There could be pin holes, you don't know until you expose what is under the crack. Also, check the hull very well, and do not assume any patchjobs that were on the boat are sound. My hull was riddled with horrid patchjobs that I ended up grinding out and redoing.

The worst was a marine tex mess that I took for granted was sound and turned out to have a pinhole that caused a slow leak. I had to grind the whole mess out and do an epoxy/cloth repair to the 8 inch gash the marine tex was hiding. Definately find the leak though, you should not get a single drop of water in that boat unless it rains without the cover that I hope you have, or swimmers dragging water in when they hop back in from a quick swim. I leave my boat in the water all season, and not a single drop makes its way in except for swimmers. I keep it covered when not in use and it stays bone dry in the worst rain storms. Good luck....

BTW Tengals, for whatever reason, I thought I had looked at your rig, but apparently I didn't. That was a fantastic job, well done. That was one thing I didn't stress as much about, was the appearance of my rig. Since it is a fishin' rig, I wasn't as worried, but looking at your rig almost makes me want to address the appearance. Maybe in the fall after it comes out of the water....
