Came back from fishing today and saw a kid (17/18) in the parking lot with his trailered boat (old 19' T-Craft WAC/115 Jonny. He looked depressed, so I asked him what the problem was. It turned out that this was his first boat (bough it last Sat.) and she wouldn't fire. Remembering my younger days with my first boat, I decided to give him a hand (luckiliy I had my tools in my truck). I cleaned the carbs, did some rewiring, and used one of my batteries to get it started. We took it out for a shake down and she ran pretty well. I got stumped when he showed me what seemed to be a fresh water spout in the gunnel with a 1/2 inch hose running from the gunnel down into the cuddy and attached to a round pump (5"X 2"). The intake side of the pump was disconnected and I couldn't see a holding tank for water. Could a boat this old have a small 5/6 gal. portable holding tank? Below the pump was a ridge of fiberglass one inch high that had a 3/4 inch plastic pipe imbedded in it running fore and aft as far as I could see with a one inch V notch cut in the pipe. Anybody know what that is? I told the kid I'd see him Thur.
Stalker

Good jog in helping the kid out. Someday he will do the same.

Maybe it was a gin and tonic dispenser. :)

Thanks:
I'll take closer look at it for the kid. As long as seawater doesn't come here, I guess he will be OK.
Stalker

That pump thing is interesting. I hope I'm missing something here. If "The intake side of the pump was disconnected" then is this essentially a very busy bilge pump pulling water from the bottom of the cabin? (hull leak?) Or perhaps that input is blocked off with the real input that manifolp pipe assembly? I'm not sure I get the real picture here. Is the boat taking on that much water? Or is there another explanation? Hopefully I'm just misunderstanding.

Bearcat:
At first I thought it was some type of bilge line too, but it can't be because the hose connected to the pump runs to the gunnel on the inside of the boat. Water would just be drawn from the bottom onto the deck of the boat. Also, right next to this pump was a bilge pump with an automatic switch which had 3/4" hose running to a discharge port. I looked at it again yesterday and I still can't figure it out. It had to be something used to draw water from the bottom of his cuddy up to the deck. Where this unit came out of the gunnel, it had what looked like a 1/4" water spigot.
Stalker
