Jay followed your Glastron re-do and now the SR and all I can say is WOW! Think if I just purchased a new boat"shell", I could send it to you for striger and deck install as well as transom "beefupafiication". These would become the toughest boats on the water and last indefinately.Seriously, you do FINE work and I am archiving both threads for future use if need be. Hope the ankle and arm are doing better.

The arm and ankle are doing much better. I am almost 100% on the arm, and the ankle has its good days and bad days. The doctor says I could be in the brace for a few months.

Ok.... it is Picture and video time again. I got the transom completely tabbed in with two layers of 1708 all the way around. I am very happy with the way it turned out, and has very few air pockets. I just need to skin the face of it with two layers, but it got cold today, and SUPER windy!!

Do we think two layers is enough?

Tabbing Done! It looks like air on the bottom of the transom, but it is not. It is the glare from the flash.

Still need to cut out the drain hole.

Lol at "fillet". I cringed at your pronunciation and went and looked it up on dictionary.com. It did not appear to distinguish multiple pronunciations for the word. So I couldn't factually bust on you. However, when I was in drafting class.....rounding off edges was fill-it like you are now saying it.

Now we can just work on your pronunciation of "Mer cruiser" :p

Tabbing looks really good.

I have been really freaking out about this... LOL. I have heard it both ways, and I really think it should be pronounced like "fila" like "chick fil a".

So how am I saying Mercruiser wrong? I need to know. ;)

That would be greatness. However, if they built boats like this, they would cost 10 times as much.

.....and they would never rot out, so no need for a new boat. (I've been admiring your awesome work for a while).

It's "Mer" as in "Mercury" not "Mer" as in "Merry" :D

Got it. I will sleep so much better tonight! LOL!!!!!

Little side note. I was looking at my avatar tonight and almost changed it over to the Sea ray, but just could not do it. The day is fast approaching that I will bring her home and get her ready for sale. A sudden sadness came over me due to the sentimental value of that boat. Remember, the Glastron is almost identical to the one my Papaw (God rest his soul) had when I was growing up. I then started going though all the pictures and videos from the restoration and thought, man that is a KICK ***** BOAT!!!!! Even though financially I could afford to keep her, we would just not use two boats that much. It would be just for the boys when we wanted a little hot rod.

I firmly believe that all the good luck we have had with the Glastron is because he has blessed it from above. However, I think Papaw will understand if I sell her to the right person. I really need a blessing on the Sea Ray.

Jay, everything is looking great. I am currently letting your latest video "buffer" so I can watch it in one segment and not a little bit at a time. As for your edited videos, I think you should take all of the parts that you edited out of the "official" build and put together a "bloopers" type video at the end of the build. I think everyone here would get a kick out of that. Keep up the good work. Thanks, Steven

Multiple Boat Syndrome usually defies all logic. You have clearly rationalized the justification.
At least wait to sell the Glastron until after a successful launch of the Sea Ray. Good luck!

A bloopers vid might have to be in order.

As long as I get this thing done before the 4th of July. I do not want too late and miss getting a better price for her.

Jay,

The videos are a great resource, My project pales in comparison, and your videos will help greatly when I start tearing into my little boat.

Well I got the skin put on the transom today. I cut two different sizes for the skin. One large than the other. I then sanded down teh area really good and wiped it down with acetone and wet out one later at a time until all the air bubbles were gone.

Do you guys think that 2 layers of 1708 and one layer of 1.5oz mat is enough for the skin?

Jay,

Very nice job on the transom. Did the 1708 you use have the CSM backing on it? If so you are good to go. If the 1708 is just cloth than you should put a layer of CSM between each layer of cloth. Looks like you will be fine with what you have. Stringers will be a piece of cake. The only tricky part about them is getting the glass to cover the tops. I used one continuous piece to cover the entire stringer. It was a PITA to get the top to lay down. If I were to do it over again I would use three pieces - one for each side and a separate small piece to cover the top. You really only need a piece of CSM to waterproof the top. Great job so far and keep up the good work.

Looks great Jay. Did you have any issues with your resin running down? It looks downright perfect.

On the cover, I use a fiberglass bow. It's simple to set up and works well. Something like this: http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=80641&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&storeId=11151&storeNum=10118&subdeptNum=10836&classNum=10840

Yes the 1708 has mat on it. I learned the other day, that is what 1708 means. It has 17oz of stitch mat and .8 oz of CSM on the back. Hence 1708.

As far as the stringers go, I plan on doing the cap method. I have watched too many guys struggle and struggle with one full piece, so I decided not to go that way.

I had to keep on top of the resin with my roller, but it was not too bad.
