Wow EZ, I just spent a few moments checking out your photo's, pure class, awesome job, definitely make me rethink actually using this, we'll see as it progresses. Some great photography you have there as well! Very impressive!!!

Thanks a lot. I did just create a project thread here http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=338633 Most of my work was completed prior to becoming a regular poster here but I figured some of the new Starcraft guys may benefit from the pictures and some added commentary.

Hey HopeSheFloats, nice project! Is that a true tri-hull-- from the first pic, it looks more like a modified v-hull? Maybe that was covered in the thread-- I skimmed it just now but I'm definitely going to read thru when I get more time. Anyway, nice looking boat, and you're doing a fantastic job on her.

I can't believe I never noticed this post until now, 4 pages and counting-- I really need to stop by the resto forum more often. :p

I see you're in Madison Heights-- I grew up there, Lamphere grad. What lake do you plan to go out on when you get her finished?

I can sure see why Rick, I just checked out NorthBeaches as well, some very fine talent we have here!

Great of you to share EZ... commentary, critiques and camaraderie and in this 'radio case' compassion{lol} are what makes a great forum.

Thanks Mike, not sure on the true classification good question! Anyone dare an answer?
I grew up in Alpena, Royal Oak & Clawson in that order until I joined the Army back in '76. I plan to take full advantage of all the lakes around here I can, first luv is St. Clair, followed by Orion, Orchard, Stoney Creek and Pontiac and...and...and...:):):)
How bout you?...where do you like splashing?

Re: Here I go, feet first {w/pictures}

you said you wanted a casting deck up front right???

ok...my project started ut a fishing boat and turned into a sunday boat. here are a couple picks during the transformation from brown fishing boat to red sunday boat.

i built a casting deck for the front of my 78 imperial. worked out great and even gave me a place for storage up front.

hope this helps.

Yeah, thats what I'm thinking about 78IT, but with a removable pedestal and access to the storage under the side seating areas, and a possible anchor storage box right at/under the front as seen here on someone else's{?} build. Then having a one piece cushion that covers it all, to use when not fishing...The dog will love havin his own spot up front. Thanks for sharing!

Picked up some foam sheets today and the 5/8 th's for the deck, Gonna be some fun times tomorrow, getting somewhere now it seems{at last... lol} hope to have the deck bottom sealed and installed by sat. eve or sunday sometime and finally get the cap back on. Hopefully by then that light at the end will come into focus!

Re: Here I go, feet first {w/pictures}

Still at it...
Got the foam{sheets - sorry missed the photo op} in and the deck...
p1043434.jpg

threw some paint on it, till I get some more glass & resin to cover it with...
p1043445.jpg

Then found some more paint and used it to see where it needs more sanding{looks like everywhere..lol}
p1043448.jpg

And still have some more touch up grinding...here in the bilge and the strip I put across the top of the transom...then hopefully no more grinding till the next project;)

Absolutely a great job, HSF. Great looking boat. But I was just curious and please forgive my ignorance, but why did you paint the deck before applying the fiberglass?

Re: Here I go, feet first {w/pictures}

Thanks TC, two reasons...one I don't have the supplies on hand and it's fixing to rain the next two days, and my tarp is a tad short. The other reason was/is to kinda highlite the areas that need more sanding{my eyes aren't what they used to be. Hopefully I didn't scrooooge myself and with a pre-sand prep before glassing, everything will bite/set-up... my ignorance may have just set me back :confused: hope not!

I just got it in the garage yesterday and i'm about to pull the motor and start drilling out the rivets for the cap. excited and not at the same time thinking about starting this project. Might have some questions for ya as time goes along.

Looks great keep up the good work.

Thanks 19'Signa, be glad to offer answers to any questions....may not always be the right ones{:redface:} but there's enough highly experienced folks here to set us straight. Looking forward to seeing your project, be sure to start a thread with lots of pictures...a sure way to get all the help and kudo's you could want.

Re: Here I go, feet first {w/pictures}

New dash idea in the works...took an old metal shelf I had lying around and cut out 2 panels...
p1063460.jpg

sanded them clean both sides...
p1063462.jpg

Nothing much around here for cutting metal circles of any sort, so the 'ol trusty saber saw steps up again...
p1063468.jpg

The last owner had the horn button face mounted, I did'nt care too much looking at the mounting ears so I'm gonna mount it from behind.
However as usual I screwed up again and the horn button hole went south hard.
p1063469.jpg

Being the hillbilly I am, instead of starting over on another panel, I improvised. Took an old faucet handle insert{both shown for reference} and cut out a ring from it...
p1063473.jpg

And it seems to have worked out well, a little seal-all to attach it and should be good to go...

Re: Here I go, feet first {w/pictures}

see above post as well...:)

This is a preview of sorts, painted white{couple more coats to go} the gages are just sitting there for the photo, they'll look more centered when attached...

Thanks to EZ for helping me see the light{lol} on my original radio mount idea. I have room now on that side for a cup holder and possibly a handheld Vhf radio holder or something??? Gonna go look for a splash guard for the cd player tomorrow and some chrome acorn nuts for the mounting bolts.

That dash is gonna look sweet . I gotta say I do like the new radio mount more than the old one :D. I work with sheet metal every day and you did good for using a sabersaw to cut with :D.

Re: Here I go, feet first {w/pictures}

Thanks Rick, yeah that original radio idea lacked to say the least LOL.
Do they make a metal hole saw kit like they have for wood? I wore down both my wood ones I had doing the 'ring'...lol it got 'r done tho :p

I'm also going to use some vinyl edge moulding around the panels to hide my shaky hand[y] work :redface:

Oh man thats freekin great HSF..I kinda like the sheet metal over billy bass plaque!

I know what you mean about a hole going south!:eek:
This was one of many botched attempts to cut out a hole for my gauges!

:eek:

I realized it wasn't good if there was a 1/4 inch egg shaped gap around the trim...
