And that brings me to the last set of pics before I'm finally current with where I am today...

EmptyAgain.jpg

Not again! Yes, I had to take everything out...again.

All of the bracing, the back one and middle two are for the seats, the front is for the steering console

Looks great! I really like the framework for the casting deck. How will you attach it to the hull sides? Very very nice work.

Ya know...I'm not 100% sure about that quite yet. ;)

I'm thinking that it's going to be really difficult to attach the framework itself to the hull...so I think I'll join the "face" of the deck [the wood that's going to go vertical] to the side and then the floor of the deck to the hull as well.

I'm thinking that through the strength of the floor and face riveted to the frame, then to the hull should be enough. I guess we'll find out. :D

I might do something along those lines...guess I hadn't thought about that.

Guess I'll see how sturdy it seems with just the few small rivets I was planning on, and if it's weak, I'll put something like that on.

Thanks for the link!

O, I forgot to say...The floor is riveted in...mostly. All but the rear most piece. That's staying out until the very last min so I can mount the bilge and livewell pumps, put in all the fittings and run the wiring. Once that's in, then that last piece will get riveted.

In the mean time I'm working on permanently attaching the casting deck frame to the floor, but I forgot to pick up a few things tonight, so I have to grab them tomorrow and get crackin'!

Any/all input is always appreciated...even though I'm getting close'ish to the end, there is still a lot of work to be done, and sometimes I struggle with just wanting the thing done now, and get frustrated with it. :)

Hey RM, don't get frustrated, it's great to see so much progress... good work mate! With my floor, I changed out all the self tappers that held it in place with blind rivet nuts in the floor stringers and 3/16 round head bolts from above. It looks great and makes every piece removable. I think it was Alpheus who gave me the idea and pointed me at the right tool for setting the riv-nuts.

I have been progressing....I promise! :D

I just haven't had any time for updates, as I've spent the last 3 months reading oops!'s thread! Ok, it really didn't take me that long, but wow that thread is long, and He's nuts, but man, that thing looks GOOD.

Ok, time to resize and upload, hopefully I'll have a nice little update here in a half hour or so....

Alright, as I said before, the floor is riveted down....That was really, Really hard on the knees.

DrillHoles.jpg

First we drill some holes....

PopRivet.jpg

Then we put in the rivets!

Onknees.jpg

Really, I spent most of the day on my knees, and it hurt. But I had to make sure the wood was tight on the stringers before I could pull the trigger so to speak

5200.jpg

I guess it takes some really hard concentration to put on some 5200, all but I think 2 of the rivets have it on them....I kinda forgot on those when I first started.

finished2.jpg

What it looks like when it's done. And I kinda ended up with a bigger gap on the one side than I wanted, but it'll be ok, as that's where the console sits.

Finished1.jpg

And a nice close up on my purdy rivet job

Then it was time to go out and get a few new little "toys" for the boat.
NewToys.jpg

Yay for the little things that make you feel like you might actually be getting close to the end of this project!

And of course, I needed to add one of these....as the original set up NEVER HAD ONE!
Bilge.jpg

A Bilge! WoooHooo! All nice and shiny new.

Moving Along...

Once the floor was in, then we could start adding things on top of it...like a casting deck!

LargeFlanges.jpg

Before I installed the framework, I added some "large flanges" for a super secret cool thing....that you'll see in about 2 min.

CloseFlange.jpg

Close up of the large flanges, you can really see the size difference here too. And I also added one to the leading edge as well under the angle, you can kinda see it poking out.

Lets rivet it down!
rivet1.jpg

rivet2.jpg

I mighta gone overboard with the rivets, but I don't want this thing to move at all!

installed.jpg

And of course, here she is all locked down and ready for more

deckcut.jpg

I kinda suck at making curved cuts, I tried once, spend like an hour an a half on it, made a template and still managed to screw it up. So, for the second go round, I had my brother [a contractor by trade] come over and cut this piece, he had it done in about 15 mins....and it was perfect! damn him and such. But he really is awesome for doing such a perfect job

livewell.jpg

Can't forget the livewell!

fiberglass.jpg

Off to do some glassin'.....

andsand.jpg

.....And some sandin'....

hatchesin.jpg

.....to make it look like this!

Now, you remember those little extra flanges I put in, well I'm sure you guess why they're there, but just in case you didn't pick up on it....

I think that's it for now. I have a few other pics, but I need to complete a few more "steps" before I want to post them up.

The deck floor is carpeted, with the little hole for the seat cut out, so we're moving along, just not as quickly as I'd like. Of course, being sick as crap for the last week has really limited me too. :(

But, fear not, the coming week shall hold many days of work, and hopefully a few updates! ;)

Thank you, Really! And to anyone in this thread that has offered me good wishes and compliments, THANK YOU! I mean it!

It means a lot to me when people appreciate the hard work and sweat and blood [some fresh meat coming off this weekend :( Rotozip at full speed+Thumb= Owwie and lots of red life jello] that have been put into this project. It's going to be an awesome, AWESOME day when I can show my Grandpa and see his reaction. :)

Thank you. :)

I really had no idea what I was doing when I built the framework. I kinda knew what I wanted, but wasn't really sure how to get there. So I winged it. Which turned out pretty decent for the most part.

I knew when I started that I wanted a livewell, a seat, and some flip open hatches to store stuff, as the original design gave me about 2 cubic feet of storage. Originally, I was going to have the livewell in the rear part of the deck [I even toyed with having a plexiglass window so I could watch the fishies! :)] with the seat and some storage in front. Well that would have put the front most fisherman almost out of the boat, so that had to be changed.

The whole design, of both the framework and the boat in it's entirety, have under gone many changes in this whole process....and I keep telling myself that those are changes for the better. :D

Once again, nice work RM! Hope you're feeling better and you can save the thumb! What are you covering the casting deck with?
