High RPMs in Neutral

Hi all,

I just put in a new shift cable and reattached the throttle cable. The new shift cable fixed my reverse issue (yay!). However, when I start the engine the RPMs are VERY high sounding. Plus, the prop is spinning quicker than normal like it's in gear (not just barely spinning).

I was thinking maybe I didn't have the mechanism that the shift cable connects to in the proper position (the little slider thing). But, with the control box set to neutral I have verified that the prop spins freely in both directions. So, I'm assuming that means I had the "slider-thing" in the correct position when I attached the shift cable. Any thoughts on what is going on?

As always, thanks for the help!

Re-adjust your throttle cable and then re-check.

Remove throttle cable, adjust so it just slides back on the carb throttle plate, then rotate the adjustment so it applies just a tad more pressure to keep it closed

I'll try readjusting it, but when I lined it up with the screw (not sure what plate you are referring to), the barrel nut was pretty spot on to being lined up. I'll try and let you know.

This is what I'm discussing. Just rotate the barrel nut out one more turn so it helps push the carb further closed. There is no return spring like you find on a car, its the cable that closes the carb

welp - turns out it was that simple. I didn't think a minor adjustment like that would make the difference, but....it did. Thanks!
