Took a road trip last weekend across MO. KS. and CO. and was surpirsed that every highway patol car I seen was the new Dodge Charger. (All three states.)

Guess I'm going to have to up the horse power in my favorite toy. :D

Common myth. :D :D :D

Funny Story

Way back in 90 or 91 I was riding my FZR 1000 race bike with numbers on the back in Phoenix(100 degree day no Helmet) and at a stop light a Tempe PD motor officer on a KZ 1000 pulls up next to me in the same lane,

he asks me "Would you ever try to out run me on that bike?"

I told him "No but if you give me 30 seconds with your bike I will"

he laughs and says "what would you do cut my fuel lines?" as he takes a swig from a water bottle,

I say "No I will give you the run but I'm taking the fuse out of your radio, I work For Motorola" He spit water all over his windshield...

If you get a chance, check out the new Caprice. Pretty amazing performance for a full size sedan. IIRC, it pretty much matched or even bested the new Charger in most every category in the Michigan State Police testing last year.

I wish they were available for civilian purchase, though...

I noticed the same driving through the southeast last month- the Carolinas and Georgia are loaded with 'em.

Between 10 and 20 years ago we took the kids upstate (NY) every summer to stay at my folks' cabin in the Lake George area for a week. All the LEO's on the NY Thruway up near the US/Canadian border drove Mustang GT's. I always thought that was kinda cool. They're probably driving Chargers now, too.

Charlseton WV city police have a '72 Chevelle SS they use on occasion. Sweet ride. Many of the departments around here have the new Chargers. I love the looks of those cars.

Would you like to know why it will not do very well in the US?

Its built in Australia, many MANY Departments will not allow a non US built car into the fleet, sucks too as I have heard as well it is a very very fast car...

Re: Highway Patrol upping their game...

When I was young and dumb we used to take our dirt bikes to a nearby "unofficial" hill climb with about a gazzilion ways in and out of it. The city decided to put a stop to us using the area and sent the motorcycle cops to run us off on their motoguzzi's. Can you imagine 100 guys on dirt bikes at the top of the climbs laughing ther behinds off as the cops tried to get up the hills? :D Finally one of them got on the bull horn and ordered everyone to come down and get their tickets. There were no takers...

Your dating yourself Bubba! The last time Moto Guzzi's were used as police bikes in the US was between 72-74. :D

Re: Highway Patrol upping their game...

its a shame that departments are now using those chargers for patrol units

they really don't have a choice

ford stopped production of one of the best passenger vehicles of all time, the crown victoria - owned a few of em in my time, fantastic autos

but with fuel prices rising and the such, no more V-8's

im sure the chryslers are cheaper than the chevys and fords anyways

but fear not loyal ford fans, there is hope on the horizon, the new interceptor!! the all wheel drive, supercharged ford taurus!!

coming soon to your neighborhood streets, and your rearview mirror

Back in the day I had a NASTY FZR1000.... I honestly don't know what all was done to it but it was a seized from a coke dealer and he had DUMPED some coin into it..... I had been riding a built kanatuna sevenfitty and was bored at 130 and seeing 170 daily when I got the fizzer... That thing would make me grin to the point that my face literally cramped and hurt every time I got after it. Shift gears at 100 mph, gently let out the clutch, smoothly roll on the throttle and she'd sky the front wheel and hold it there till about 120 or so and time to shift again..... It topped out about the same as a busa (200) but got there quicker..... I'm certain that thing would have lost the kz in about 10 feet lol......... Between those bikes and my 165 mph S-10, I am VERY lucky to still be here today.....

I got away from fast machines on purpose because I love going fast sooooooo much..... figured it was just a matter of time till I was dead or in jail if I kept em........ Just typing about them has my heart rate climbing......

I will not triple the posted speed limit.

Good friend patrol the highways here and still prefers the Crown Vic. He's tried the Chargers as have all his colleagues. All had the same opinion....Looks good but too many blind spots. For now, the Fords are being replaced by hopped up Yukons with lowered suspensions.
