Re: hmmmm

Sure you dug hard enough? Sometimes that crap is hard to dig thru. Try a small screwdriver. There IS water in the block and manifold

I can go try again, but man, I was deeeeeep in there, digging around, I figured i would have at least had signs of moisture.

Re: hmmmm

Just to make sure, hook up the muffs and start the engine...... With the drain plugs out. You should get water out of the open holes. If not, they are still plugged.
May want to bend some stiff wire and go sideways if you can.

Re: hmmmm

well, I dug around some more, and never got any water... so yesterday I put antifreeze in through the thermostat opening, and I definitely got flow through the open holes, through the block and through the manifold. So....where did the water go?

How long has it been since the boat was used?

Re: hmmmm

oil level is perfect, and oil looks fine. Its holding the antifreeze in the block and manifold; even after a few days.

Re: hmmmm

Maybe more info?
When was it last run?
Is it possible someone else drained it?
It isn't self draining.

Re: hmmmm

Maybe his outdrive impeller is shot and so is his temp gauge! There was never any water in the block in the first place!! :D LOL

Re: hmmmm

I ran it before I tried to drain it. I know water was getting through the block because I found out I had a bad manifold due to water in the oil. Temp gauge appears to work fine because I also found out I didn't have a thermostat due to it running hot, and then I put in a tstat and it fixed that problem.

Re: hmmmm

Not to split hairs, but a missing thermostat should not make an engine run hot, it should run cold as the thermostat is not there to force the water to recirculate... Are you sure you don't have a problem with the cooling system?

Re: hmmmm

Maybe I am missing something here but I don't see anything that would explain the block not having water in it.
In fact if the heat sensor isn't in water it might not show hot.
How long did you run it?

Re: hmmmm

well, thats why I'm confused too. the temp guage was appearing to work okay. I ran it for about 15 minutes maybe? and the temp guage was moving how it should. Wasn't heating up too quick, and wasn't running hot, and was running very well in fact. And I tried to drain the water, and I got nothing.

Re: hmmmm

The gauge will NEVER show overheat with no water in the system. 300? may only show 120? on the gauge. But you couldn't touch anything.
When was the last time the impellers was checked/replaced????
Did you try the trick of leaving the plugs out and running the engine on muffs to see if anything came out the holes??????

Re: hmmmm

impeller was replaced in august.

have a few reasons to believe water is in the system; had the manifold problem which lead to water in the oil, so water must have been in the system then. Plus, When the temp guage was reading hot and I realized I didn't have the stat, and then I put in the stat, it leveled out the temperature, thus making me think that the guage is working, reading off the water.

I didn't run on muffs w/o the plugs in because I had already put in the antifreeze. I'll probably just worry about it next year....well, maybe i'll drain the antifreeze back into the jugs as to not waste it....hmmm.

Re: hmmmm

Well imo it can't be as you said and all be well.
Next spring is boating time, not repairing time. :p
I would try Don's trick now.

there is an external crack in the block or leaking core plug that only leaks when it's warm
