Re: Homelite or Fisher Pierce outboards.....
Thanks for the Reply. I have talked to Roberts in the past. But the last time I emailed him I got no reply. I have also purchased parts from the 4cycle marine in California.
#4 is a mystery to me as the engine runs fine. no back fire or obvious popping from the exhaust. The ex valve clearance is only .004 which of course needs to be adjusted. The top of the stem seems higher than the others, so it may have been replaced and not seated properly. The valves are said to be Stellite. Which seems confusing to me. I know it is common to use stellite seats in HI temp applications. So is it the valve faces or the seats that are stellite? any way stellite should last forever. but the mating face would wear. The last time I ran it, The cooling water stopped circulating so either the impeller died or the engine scale plugged up the exhaust outlet. Because of the backpressure I suspect the later. I flushed it with pressure water and got some flow, but I haven't proceeded from that point.
I was given a Mariner 48 and have put it on the boat and rigged up controls and steering and done some minor repairs including a new impeller. The control cables were trip. Merc on the control box end and Yamaha on the engine end. So for now I am concentrating on getting MY 1961? Chetek lapsrake runabout in operation. [ 18'?]
So where are you?
