Re: Hot Battery
Trog,

It appears to me that you are not reading all of the posts before making comments, or only reading what you want to hear.

The high current charger used by waterone1 is one that reduces as the voltage rises, exactly the same as a car/boat alternator.

My comment to you about driving a car was preceded by a quote of your comment about using high current chargers on one of your batteries.

I will now quote you again

This comment is totally uncalled for in this type of forum and is not the whole story of what happened.

Fact : An N70Z battery (the most common used in boats) usually has a capacity of around 70-90 Ah. From flat it should be able to take 30amps for 2 to 3 hours without a problem.

Fact : Alternators in modem cars (and most boats) are capabale of producing well in excess of 50 amps when required. If the battery is low in charge the alternator will charge at maximum capacity until the battery reaches ~14 volts. Exactly as the charger waterone used. The alternator in my own car will produce 120 amp if required. I have 2 batteries in my vehicle and I am not the least bit worried about the charge current.

Please, read all of the posts before you make irrelevant or 'out of context' comments, or sarcastic remarks.

We don't 'cosy-cosy' as you suggest on here. If you look around you'll see I have corrected quite a few inaccurate comments on these forums. I have also been wrung out myself (still have some scars to prove it).

I know that human nature is to justify our actions, but in this case I think you should just accept that you made a mistake and move on.

Chris...........now if u really do want to make an old battery dangerous.. its pretty easy to do.. just bung 30 amps into it... leave to to brew for a few hours till well baked.. then come back and closely inspect it..
