How did my outboard get holes in the pistons?

Re: How did my outboard get holes in the pistons?

This motor has obviously been worked on before. Either the left end piston was replaced or the right two were replaced at one time. The holes in the center of the piston were not drilled by someone and I'd bet they do NOT go through the crown. If you look at the left piston (11 o'clock) you will see a similar hole. It is not unusual to see a hole in a piston -- it would be unusual to see those holes go all the way through however.

I enjoy taking the things apart, so thats what I'm doing / did.

Bigb, YOU ARE MY HERO!!

I feel the same way. I wish I would have admitted to it years ago. I keep telling myself that I am rebuilding or fixing things, but 75% of the time I just take them apart and they sit that way until things get broken or lost, then I get rid of them. Or not. I have so much stuff around here that I have taken apart and never done anything with it isn't funny.

I wish I could admit that I just love taking things apart to see what is inside.

Long live BigB!
