How do I assemble new ignition coils

I just received my new coils (Sierra 18-5194). I've never assembled plug wires before.

How does the conductor, boot, and spring go together?

Strip about 1/8" of insulation off the end of the wire and fray out the stranded wire. Pierce the spring point through the wire, trying to make it go through the wire core. The frayed strands should contact the spring also. Then put a drop of oil on the spring and push it into the small opening of the boot. Have it oriented so that the leg/pointy end of the spring is facing away from the large opening of the boot. All easier to do than describe.

Thank you for the reply. I was typing a reply because I was completely confused but as I typed my questions the answers became clear. I was thinking the wire was more like coax cable and confusing the frayed wire with the shield but now I see (after trimming off a small piece of wire, this is not the case). I think I understand your directions.

I follow-up if it doesn't work I'll ask more questions.
thank you

When you poke the spring through the wire you do so with the spring at a right angle to the wire. Then you move the spring over flush with the end. This ensures a nice tight snug fit between spring and wire.

I really need to take pictures of that next time I make wires.

Next best thing: A quick sketch.

Picture 1 is how you poke the wire in. Picture 2 is after flipping the spring flush with the top. The circle with the line is the spring connector looking from the top. The grey bar is the plug wire. The copper-colored bit is the stripped wire layed flat over the plug wire.

As they say, " A sketch is worth a bazillion words". This confirms that I did get the verbal version correct. I see you must strip out about a 1/2" or so of the conductor to lay back over the insulator. I think i will do this or even make a few wraps around the spring.
Thanks to all for their assistance.

Re: How do I assemble new ignition coils

I put them on and it seems to run well, with earmuffs. Going to get her wet tomorrow.

I cut off about 1/2" of insulation and folded the conductor back before sticking the spring in. Found out that if you wrap the conductor around the spring a once or twice it gets to be too big of a bump to get everything in the boot (or at least not easily). So I laid it flat like wombat recommended then put the spring in with half of the conductor braid on each side of the straight part of the spring. Once the spring was pushed into the wire and then rotated in place, I wrap the conductor wire halves over the exposed straight piece of the spring while pushing it into the boot.

What about the end that goes into the coil pack. It's got a male end so does the coax cable.
