I started a different post about carbs but I have read that carbs rarely need rebuilding, often they only need to be cleaned. What would be the best way to clean the carbs? Pull them off? Keep them on? Carb Cleaner? Sea Foam? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

Any off the shelf cleaner will work.Don't use ANY carb soak.It can ruin the rubber and any seals and remove crome.
Take them off.I work over a clean white towel/t-shirt.Read the first couple of threads here about link@sinc.
NEVER run the motor out of fuel.It will cause scoring and ruin the rings/pistons.
Remove the foam from the hood.Simple Green in the motor area and spray it with a hose.
Use Ethanol stabilizer. Seafoam or Power Tune is a good thing to use to de-carb.

i have found the best way to clean carbs is to pull them off, and take off the float, needle and idle mix screw and soak them over night, then hit them compressed air to blow out all passages within the carb, just be carefull not to bend the tabs on the float when disassembling and the float adjustment should be the same, you'll have to adjust the idle mix screw when you get it back on the motor. ive done quite a few carbs this way with good results and they worked great. auto parts stores sell a gallon of carb & parts cleaner, just soak em, blow em out put em back together they'll work and look like new

The carb soak can and will eat chrome off the needle valve seat.If you have rubber or chrome in the seat I'd stay away from a soak.It won't seat right again. You might get lucky and not harm anything.I ruined a pair of carbs for a 125.Luckily I had another set. Some seats have an o-ring in them.It can swell the o-ring,stopping the fuel.
The soak works great on automotive parts.Jerry

Since you mentioned there were deposits I would take the carbs apart and clean them. Change your hoses and fuel filter if you have one and clean your fuel screen. Since the boat is older you should clean the tank also. The carbs are very easy to take apart and put back together.
