Re: How do you get through the Winter

Kenny, it's definitely not big mountain skiing. But it's close and not very crowded during the week. I don't know if you have ever ski'd Sunapee, but that is more "big mountain", that's only about 20 minutes away. I guess from where I am, Killington/Pico, Loon, Wildcat, Cannon, Waterville Valley, Gunstock, and a few more are within an hour drive.

Ski?

Yeah used to do it when I was younger (less than 14 years old). Used to play hockey too.

To make a long story short, I've sufferred with hip problems since 14. Just finally got a new hip and can now walk pain free.

Skiing, skating, hockey is a no no. I'm on the exercise bike/treadmill/walking my dog about an hour per day.

What I really want to do is build a big big big big dome over my cottage and lake. This way my retired neighbour and I could boat/fish/drink beer all year long.......

Joe

Re: How do you get through the Winter

Winter time along the Great Ohio River. A time of reflection and dreams for the next season which seems like it's never going to get here because the STUPID weather man keeps saying it's going to get colder and we got more snow on the way so don't load up the boat yet cause you'll die of hiperthermia if you go out on the dang River!!!!!! So.....

I work at the shop and stare at the river and go home and work some more on my remodeling which seems to go on forever....then I'll go to my regular job which is next to the river so I can dream some more of hot days on the river with herself and a cold Bud watching the rug rats turn into prunes from being in the water to much......

AHHHHHHH!!!! Winter along the Ohio......sucks.

Hey Joe, used to live in TO, I know how you feel, I build stuff or fix stuff, the older and broker the better. This winter I am carving up an old fibreglass boat and turning it into a fishing boat. SAD is also an issue, go see your doctor.

Re: How do you get through the Winter

At the risk of getting Stoned to death, (I'm ducking and looking around) I just go boating! The temp. is supposed to be in the 70's Saturday and Sunday, and I'm off this Weekend :) So All I have to do is unplug the light bulb, take the bulb out. Unplug the Battery Charger, same outlet! Hook up the hose, and Start test run. Then hook up the truck to the trailer, and drive less than 10 miles to the Ramp. The only drawback is when I come home in the winter, when I park the boat I have to remember to lower the Outdrive, turn one knob let the water drain out, and put the Light bulb back in, so if they say it might drop into the 30's for a night or two, I can plug back the Light Bulb.

Dang, Winters are Heck! :D Okay, I'm running now, take your best shot.

Re: How do you get through the Winter

Well Steam_Mill, you mentioned walking your dog... can this dog "retrieve"? Winter is my favorite time of year. Sitting in a tree with my bow, waiting for an unsuspecting deer to walk by. "Walking my dog" through cattails and waist high brome grass toting my 12-Guage, watching the colorful ring-neck Pheasant try and escape the wrath of flying lead. Maybe a day with my .223, hiding in a bush 50 yards from my "wounded rabbit" predator tape, to eliminate a coyote or 2.

I do some ice fishing too, ususlly after the end of Pheasant season Feb 1.

As for skiing, I'm in FLAT Nebraska, the only way to ski here is to hook a rope to the back of the snowmobile... heck, when I take my kids sledding, we have to go to a secluded overpass of the interstate and sled down the incline. :D

Don't ya' jist hate guys that live on the warm coasts!!??

But....that's OK. That's OK. Ain't compaining...much. I got the rig in tha' garage where I can go set and pretend until the snow falls and all the rugrats want to go sledding.

We got no shortage of hills around here Moose. Just out the back door about 50 yards and it's all down hill. Let the kids sled until they turn into popcicles.. :D :D :D

Re: How do you get through the Winter

We went fishing Saturday. Low 60's and sunny with 10-15 kt. S. winds. Caught 7 trout and 1 flounder. LF caught the flounder, her first with artificials (bait :D )She brought 3 more up to the boat but they were short biting and they spit it when they saw the boat. It was a good day for early January.
