gaugeguy,

You sure were right about the salt on the roadways in Vermont and New Hampshire!!

I've washed my truck twice since returning, and there is still salt seeping out all over the place!

Why do they use so much salt up there?

Don't they know that all that salt just tears the asphalt up?

Here on Long Island, they use about 1/16th of what was used up there, and our roads are usually passible.

No wonder there are so many "new cars" up there, they must rust out after only a couple of years.

I think it has to do with the town budgets. They are allotted so much $ for sand and salt, if they don't use it all in one year, the amount of $ they get the following year will decrease. So they use as much as possible so they are given more money the following year, it's a racket.

Pot hole season is really fun around here. My truck is 3 years old, roughly 40K miles and have had to replace ball joints already.

Oh yeah, the salt on the roads brings the moose out of the woods to lick the snow around the roads so the tourists can see what they look like. ;)

Well gaugeguy,

They should do something about all that salt if it's drawing the moose out of the woods, onto the roadways.

A friend of mine was critically injured in an incident with a moose, back in '88, while attending the bike meet at Laconia.

Supposidly, he was the first person to hit a moose during bike week since like 1952!!

He still has major medical problem associated with that moose!

And to top it all off, the moose just got up and walked away!

Go figure.

We had a lady at work who hit a moose. Took it out at the knees and the moose crashed through the windshield on top of her. I guess the moose got up and walked away from the accident (I would have been runnin, cause that is one ugly lady).

They have had a few collisions here the last few years, a few on bikes. Your friend is lucky to be alive, most people don't live through it.

Tourist dollars man. They put up signs "moose crossing" and "hundreds of collisions", but every year thousands and thousands flock to "moose alley" to get a few pictures of the beast.

I bet there are alot more that go unreported too.

My friends accident happened along the Kangamangous Hwy.(sp), and he was traveling about 35 MPH, when that moose just trotted out of the woods, and across the road, without even looking for anyone driving on the road.

I think the state of NH should begin an income tax to educate these moose, that they have to look both ways before crossing the street. LoL :D

That moose also wiped out the 1963 H-D Hydro-Glide.

That bike was sweet!

i do alot of woodworking in my garage. and if i am not there i am probably hanging out in some bar. both are great winter sports. i do do a little ice fishing but usually that ends up to my second favorite thing to do in the winter, hanging out in some bar, playing darts or cribbage and just bull****ting with people.

Skiing a, I never thought of that. :D
Actually we are only about 1 hrs drive from
some of the best skiing in North America.
I guess when you are surrounded by snow for such
long periods at a time, you can kinda grow tired
of it and not be drawn to spending extra time
playing in it.
I spend the winter ice fish'n and ice camping.
and daydreaming about palm trees and sandy
beaches.
