Get some pvc pipe cap off all the ends. Get some rope floats, and a section of chicken wire, sane netting, etc. attach it to the pvc., an d the floats, tie it off to your dock, and watch the bozo's throw their lures, etc. into your trap. :D

What do ya think of that ?? ;)

IF this don't work, ................ let's see. A shotgun, a lawn chair, a 30 pack on ice, and a few shots across the water SHOULD be a deturent. ;)

Have you thought of putting a set of REALLY LOUD speakers out there. That way as soon as you see one come near just blast them away with some rap or speed metal. You get the picture, nothing very pleasant. Heck, if you do it right, you wouldn't have to leave the house, jsut look out the back window till they are within range.
Course, you may want to warn your neighbors of your intentions. That way you don't create more problems than you already have.

Replace REALLY LOUD speakers with REALLY BIG WATER CANNON remote controlled of course. :D :D :D :D

You can't shoot a shotgun at them and pointing one at them may result in a visit by the cops (looking for you, not the fishermen).

You are correct, but it's not against the law to sit on your dock cleaning your gun. :D

Or maybe put a nice spread of deeks out and sit on your dock with the 12 and a couple of calls. :D Quack, Quack!!! :D

Heres the reality check. How about you all stop whinning about how YOUR boat is getting nicks in it. you park the boat on public water as with parking your car in a parking lot. You still do it knowing that some moron might hit it or scratch it. Do you put a barrier around your cars, no I didnt think so . So if you really want to dont build a gaudy boat dock and keep your boat on the water for the mishaps to happen then thats fine. Having a gun thats just white trash period and extremly ignorant, more so than hittin a dock or boat with a lure. Dont want to be a jerk or anything just had to let it out. As ive said before its not fun to repair anything on the boat that someone was not considerate about in the 1st, but when the boats are parked out in the open something is bound to happen.

Sure, you should expect such things.

Next time Im at Home Depot, and kids just happen to be throwing pebbles near my car and hit it, Ill just expect that is what should be done in a public parking spot.

Thanks! I feel much better learning I should just expect people should be allowed to just damage property.

Where do you park your car, if I may ask. I have a piantball tourney Im trying to plan.

I have a problem with idiots too.
Me and my friends spend a weekend every year camping on an island in Georgian bay.
Many groups of 10+ boats will anchor and tie together a couple hundred feet of shore, then get really upset when we drive thru to the island and their boats all bang together.
Here's a tip, don't tie togeter.

Oh Man, another winner.

It's called rafting up...most social boaters do it. YOU are the one without respect, as you go up there once a year? Maybe these people are there all year or often. When you see groups of boats do them a favor and slow down and go around/give wide berth.

Everyone does this on our lake. We had 5 boats rafted up this past weekend, and many other groups were around doing the same thing.

However, I guess it's regional. Everyone around here respects a raft up and takes care to be a little more careful with their wake and speed. Its the joy of boating and socializing, my friend!

My buddies and I have considered entering a few of the bass tourneys and having some fun with the idiots....deep sea poles, 5 lb coffee cans filled with concrete for sinkers, a dozen huge treble hooks, stereos blaring, thru hull exhaust thumping away, fishing dead next to them, circling their boats casting away, etc.

:D Excellent! Especially if you do this in a serious manner, like this is what you always do.

I would add putting on the bright orange pdf's, and wearing hats with lures.

I still like snagging their lures. It is a three way deterrent:

1) snags are a fisherman's nightmare; it takes time to desnag
2) you carry a limited quantity of lures
3) lures are the secret ingredient for fishing. Loosing one to have someone else enjoy the benefits of your research is real deterrent.

But, like a stinger on a bee, once you have been stung you do mess with a bee. But, someone else who hasn't been stung that will mess with that bee another time.

Such a fun topic. I guess that is why they keep the oldies.

Schools out, maybe the neighborhood kids would enjoy a little fishing off your dock. Invite them to bring their paint guns as you will supply the paint balls and the targets.

Then you have the evidence to point out at the weigh in.:D

Rafting should be done in a cove, not in the main channel or where you would expect high volume of boat traffic. If you do then hopefully you will enjoy the sound of aluminum banging and fiber glass cracking as I would pass as far as I can but I would not slow down.

There's disrespect from all types of boaters, upon all types of boaters. Like the party boat that asked us for directions to a cove then gunned it and threw us a huge wake taking off,,, his way of saying thanks

I'd give rafters a wide birth but wouldn't slow down as I'd much rather eat a wake from a boat going 30MPH than on going 15MPH,,, throwing a HUGE wake. If I'm in close proximity I idle it down while passing, wished other boaters did the same...

Re: How do you protect your boat from Bass fisherman?

Funny story from a fishing trip last week:

Seems like some bass fishermen are unclear on the concept. They watch the tournament shows, with the pros racing around, followed by shot after shot of some pro casting once and landing a keeper.

I was at my favorite lake, pitching a spinnerbait in some weeds on a flat. I caught several "keepers," which I released, along with a couple of nice Northern Pike.

Suddenly, from out of nowhere, a 20' glitter boat, complete with 200 hp outboard roars up and stops about 100 feet from my crummy little 12' aluminum boat.

The two guys in the bass boat stand up. One goes to the front, while the other goes to the back. Each casts three times with their own spinnerbaits. Then, they return to the seats and roar off again, heading for some other "hot spot" on the lake.

Three casts. Unclear on the concept. $40K boat and motor, probably the latest $350 rod and reel combos, the latest fish locator and GPS. Three casts.

I could hardly stop laughing, but then I hooked up with another 3-pounder that I had to work through the weeds. :D

Re: How do you protect your boat from Bass fisherman?

A lot of good ideas, but if it were my place on the lake, I wouldn't want to spend all my time there putting up nets and fences, or cleaning a gun on the end of the dock. I would just want to sip my beer and relax. There must be a solution that is self-policing and doesn't create more work for you at your vacation spot.

As a bass fisherman, it seems the thing you would want to do is make the area as uninviting to bass and fishermen as possible. Bass love shade and structure, which is why they hang out under the docks in the first place. Probably no good way to eliminate the shade or structure....hmm...can you make your dock a 'T' and then park your boats behind the top of the 'T' ? They would still certainly fish the top of the 'T' but might not take the time to position their boats around the top of the 'T' so they could cast toward your boats.

I've heard of people putting motion detectors on their dock, which trigger a sprinkler to keep birds from sitting (and pooping) on their dock. How about a motion detector which triggers a paddle wheel in the water? The turning paddle wheel might be enough to spook the fish so they don't bite lures, and make the area unappealing to bass fishermen.

Big bass don't really have many predators, but maybe you could get/make a replica of a big muskie and mount it in the water under the dock. Sort of a scarecrow to keep bass away. lol...I wonder if anyone has ever tried that and if it would work?

It is a shame its come to this for you. I fish docks all the time, but never cast toward boats.

Re-read the original post: "tie together a couple hundred feet of shore"

Which I assume is along the shore/close to the edge of the lake/maybe even in a cove of some sort ;)

Obviously anyone would know not to raft up in the middle of a channel :)
