How educated are you?

As witnessed in a few other threads, the users here at this forum must be very diverse. Some can barely spell but may know boats inside & out. Others may have PhDs but wouldn't know a boat from a bath tub.<br /><br />Just curious then; how much formal education do you have?

went though school in 13 years and computer school in five months real school i was held back one years computer school should have been two years I was a fast reader and passed the tests at end of each book i took month off to<br /><br />ps I got trade school too opp's i voted wrong

I put college, but in your poll I am other. I consider "college" meaning you have a bachelor's degree (4 years typically). Well in three years I got an Associates degree. Life has given the rest of my education!

Formal education is only one of the ways we become educated.<br /><br />The University of Life doesn't award degrees or Diplomas, yet affords opportunity for extensive education.

Very well said JB!!! <br /><br />In the year 2000 I was 100% illiterate when it came to computers and now I've come along way baby, being self taught!!! <br /><br />And at my young age of ? I'm still learning or you might say being educated in day to day life!!!

I'm another believer that experience is your best mentor.<br /><br />I'm also grateful to be one of the few and fortunate that had parents which provided an opportunity to attend college and a wife that worked full time while I finished (after 7 years) Now I have medical insurance companies that dictate the value of my professional abilities with established fees regardless of my time and education. Unfortunately, they don't reciprocate by giving me a break on medical insurance premiums I pay for our family <br /><br />Although I enjoy my work, often times I believe I could make a better living as a NMMA certified tech where there isn't insurance companies bartering or challenging the $65+/hr labor charges they get.

I gratuated highschool,by the skin of my pants,im not to good at book learning,im more of a handsown person so i went to trade school for drafting excelled in my class when i gratuated they were are in the process of going to cad,so i would have had to start all over i couldnt afford that so i taught myself with help and hands on exp in the construction feild,like i said in another post now im jack of all and master of none.but i love my job and all my benifits so intern im a very happy man.

Everything I do in the IT industry is pretty much self-taught of learned through mentorship. I think the reliance on book-based education is sometimes higher than it should be. <br /><br />I'd put my 10 years of IT experience up against and book-educated MCSE certified computer tech any day of the week.<br /><br />The difference? Got a college degree because these days you con't do anything without that piece of paper. Most of the relevant skills and knowledge I have are from outside the college classroom. Most of my technical skills & knowledge are either self-taught or OTJ training. Also, I have attended numerous job-related training schools.<br /><br />I've also learned a lot here at iboats! <br />(gratuitous schmoozing)

Around my way if ya have a high school education and get yaself into a trade, ya can make some serious money, a plumber can make $100,000.00 per year just for knowing that,<br /><br />cold water on the right, hot water on the left and all sh-t floats down hill!!!! <br /><br />dno't ned mcuh edcaution fro taht!!!!
