Short walk (10 min) to the bay and dock. Short drive (10 min) to ocean. Short drive (20 min) to Long Island Sound. Short drive (15 min) to River and Lake. Love the location for all of the options.

We drive and launch, but don't have to go far. Lake Minnetonka, the big pond near the Twin Cities, is 8 minutes away. A few closer lakes. Thousands of others to pick from in Minnesota. We enjoy the variety, but some of the launches have been rather challenging. Newbie boater last year who learned a lot.

There are lakes and rivers all over the place around here. I mainly use one small lake about 25 miles away and a big one about 40ish miles depending on which ramp I use. The little lake is usually packed during the summer months, so I mostly go to the big one. This is will be our second season, so we plan on widening out to places maybe 2-3 hours away. Can?t wait!:)

We have a slip for the Silverton and it's 35 miles/ 45 minutes away on the upper Chesapeake Bay. I usually go and stay for the weekend. The marina slip holders have unlimited use of the launch ramp, so I can take my Jon boat anytime I want :D. I often tie the Jon boat at the end of my finger pier next to the big boat. Makes it easy to get in and out, and doesn't use any dock space. No extra cost because the marina considers it a dinghy and my dock neighbor doesn't mind.

man, i'm envious of you guys... 5 minutes, a stone throws away, 15 minutes, and the best is ladyfish hanging on a sling. "how cool is that" sums that up i think.... on and on. you folks are real lucky.
i guess i just thought i had it good. i'm 30-35 min. away from the boat ramp. 21 miles. or an hour away from the river at about 65 miles...
oh well, i guess i should be happy i'm only 30 mins. from the ramp. nebraska ain't exactly known for having lakes... or water for that matter....

Re: How Far are you from the Water?

there's a neighborhood ramp about 5 mins away, small lake better for boarding/skiing. too cold to swim.

county ramp for the big lake is about 5 miles. much better for swimming/cruising.

couple more to chose from within an hour's drive.

About 45 min. to the closest Lake. There are about a half dozen possibilities within 2 hours and another 6 or so within 4 hours.

1hr to the ne i have broken bow lake, also a beautiful mountain lake. that's where we go to cove race:cool: 50-60 open headered dragboats racing outta the coves, echoin off the mountains, its aweeeessome

LF's 'under the house' part intrigues me. Sounds like a garage for the boat. Also sounds like there could be unwanted issues associated with it.
Boat lifts are extremely common on the Chesapeake...maybe half and half.
I'm lucky, I just stroll down to the pier, turn the key and go (although I am across the street from the water).
I would have thought more people would have been closer to the water than what they are.

996' from the lake. HOWEVER, it is the marsh part of the lake. I know it is 996' because if we move a shovel full of dirt we need to pay 375.00 for a shore-land lake compact. Needless to say they can kiss my big behind on that one. We have lived here 18 years and this is now the 3rd time the DNR has killed off our lake. It is really getting annoying. 1st time to kill off the bullheads, 2nd time for the carp that somehow got in, 3rd time now for the weeds.

Re: How Far are you from the Water?

it takes about 45 minutes to get to the water. 30 minutes of that is on a dirt road. i take my time. dont want rock marks or tree scratches on my boat.

6 miles north to the launch closest the dam, 8 miles south to one of 2 marinas on the Army Corp, 30 mile long lake. 1 1/2 miles if I hike through the woods, with one road to cross and 2 lawns, to get to the shore.

Re: How Far are you from the Water?

Our house is about 300 Meters (yards) from the ocean which is a rocky beach on Shingle Bay. The marina and nearest boat launch is about 2 kilometers away to the west. We store our boat on the trailer in our yard. We usually launch at the ferry landing which is about 12 kilometers to the west on a paved highway or a 15 minute drive. (It's also free)

The ferry landing is closer to the summer fishing grounds on the West Coast of our Islands so it saves on time and fuel.
