if the tow rig and trailer are in good condition you should be able to tow it cross country. either the trailer is in good shape and you'll have no unforseen issues, or the trailer isn't and you shouldn't tow it anywhere.

breakdowns with trailers suck...

If your hubs and tires are in good condition, it really doesn't matter how far you tow it. If you haven't rebuilt them, I would definitely do that before venturing out.

Also, your tow vehicle needs to be appropriately sized and in good condition as well. But really these are things you would do if you only going 100 miles.

Doesn't matter at all. We used to tow from LA to Vancouver, BC straight without stopping...24 hours or so.

I tow one way 250 miles on average, leaving for 500+ one way this week. Tires should be close if not, at max pressure rating on sidewall. Bearings need to be good. I jack my trailer up before every trip and spin the wheels and wiggle them to see if I am developing any play or funny noises. I consider this a MINIMUM for long trips. I also touch my hubs immediately following any stop to see if they are equally hot. If you have one that you can't touch, then you are developing an issue . . .

you could buy a spare set of bearings for precautionary reasons.. but it's a good idea to carry an extra set anyway..

I towed my 1991 boat 1400 miles. I had new tires put on before I left, greased the buddy bearings before and during the trip. On gas stops check your hitch/connections to make sure everything is still tight.

Yep, I did the very same thing, 1ml-500ml same rule applies.

Checking the hubs like that is a very good habit to get in to. Even on short trips cause you never know when a problem migjht develop.
