Re: How hard is a carb rebuild?
I did this. The new pump works really hard by hand in the housing (meaning it makes a really tight seal). I was actually concerned it might be too hard which is why I reverted to the old pump as I said in my last post. After what you just said, I'm definitely going to switch back to the new pump. When there was gas in the bowl still and I was working the new pump by hand, it definitely shot out a bunch of fuel from the ventury, so it doesn't seem the housing is shot.
It really seems like there is just this delay when I gun the gas. After that split second, it dumps the gas in quick and works just fine (if it hasn't stalled). I followed all the instructions on adjusting the linkages, etc. to the 't' & it doesn't seem like there is sufficient play in the pump linkage to cause any problems there.
Remove the top and pump the plunger by hand and make your best guess as to whether the bore is worn or the balls are not working as they should.
