HOW IMPORTANT IS PROPER SPARK PLUG in 1980 4.5 hp evvy ?

THE 4.5 I BOUGHT HAD INCORRECT PLUGS ( found out after going out several times). She ran great, but I wanted spare set as back-up.. I went to buy correct plugs last week. I found the plugs I had were hotter temp; plugs. Would that hurt her in the long run, or just add power ? The power question came from parts store clerk. Said car racers will sometimes bump up heat range for more go ! But being as she is a 1980 2 stroke I'm thinking no. Could hurt lubrication of oil in fuel mix ?

You're not going to even qualify with that engine. LOL. I would use the recommended plugs. Best of luck. Rick.

+1 with rick. stay with the champion plugs ( QL77JC4??)

Don't even bother with the Q series - just use the standard L77JC4. The Q series is a resistor plug to prevent electrical interference/noise in electronics.

I don't know Rick...I have the cavitation plate bout 2/16 of an inch above bottom of that dingy of mine..Must of picked up about 1/2 to 1mph top end ! lol

Good to know....Already got the L77jc4 plugs...They have a different # now according to Advance Auto...but are Champs I need...
