I cringe when folks say they use wingnuts. Sure, just tighten them up when they become loose. Do you realize what happens to components that are connected to the battery when battery connections become loose BEFORE they are tightened? They often fail.

Vibration to questionable connections is a killer.

Use bolts, washers, lock washers & nuts. If swapping batteries whilst on the boat is a priority, keep a pair of wrenches or ratchets on the boat too.

ok, I'm convinced. Just for the record, my strategy has been to get 'em tight in the first place (vs retightening)...but I may be misunderestimating the risk, and the convenience factor really is not all that compelling.

BTW just for clarity, the interstate deepcycle I use for cranking is labelled "deep cycle" on the case, but the specs refer to it as "dual use"...

'preciate the advice.

It's been my experience that there isn't a wingnut on the market that cannot come loose, no matter how much you tighten it.

If convenience isn't a factor, what's the reason for using wingnuts?

If the battery only says "Deep Cycle", it's a Deep Cycle battery.
