29 year old Mercruiser 3.0 Liter I/O - 1320 on the hour meter, with no parts replaced, ever, except impeller, oil, plugs, etc. The points were switched to Pertronics about 12 years ago.

The companion kicker - 29 year old Evinrude 9.9 with 600+ documented hours - all original as well, except the impeller.

1978 Evinrude 75hp......approx 150 hours on it. 150 psi on all 3 holes.

The PO bought the motor brand new in 1979. He used it for 3-4 seasons and then stored it from 1983 til 2012(when I bought it). Only paid $200 for the motor, controls, and a spare prop. :)

Re: How many hours are on your engines/drives?

from this very unscientific poll, it's interesting that the inland/lake i/o boaters run about 20-40 hours a year and the coastal OB boaters 75-125 hours a year. The local (coastal) fishing forum I use did a similar thread and the guys were running the big outboards 100-200 hours a year.
Yamaha's owner's manual has maintenance intervals at "100 hours/1 year" which suggests to me that they expect that to be the typical recreational use. Looks right for salties.
I understand a lot of lake boaters may be out for several hours but most of them are on anchor, so engine hours are not really boating hours, whereas we move around a lot. Also the upper midwest and Canada have shorter seasons (although few responses are from Florida or other no-season areas--however, the mid-Atlantic is close to year round). Since you don't winterize outboards you can easily drop them in on a warm day in the off season, so you get more use. Plus on the coast there are way more places to go and long distances to cruise from any ramp. Lots of places to keep them in the water or just at the ramp, short drives to launch if not.
I'm not trying to temp you lake boaters to come here. Stay where you are happy!

I would bet another big difference is many the inland/lake guys trailer the boat, and only get at a dozen or two outings a year, while a lot of the coastal guys have lifts or slips, so getting out is not such a big deal. I went from about 30/year to over a hundred when I got a pier I could use (on an inland lake, but I do haul her to the coast every now and again).

My neighbor at the lake puts 400 hours a year on his ski boat. Inboard, 100% lake use, winterized October-March.

Ok I'll play...

Ordered my '05 Four Winns so when I took delivery there were "0" hours on it. Hour meter was purchased and didn't function for the first 10 hours of use. Once corrected, I believe I'm somewhere in the 120's - didn't check the last time I was in the boat.

**Boat is used mainly for fishing so I might travel 15 minutes, kill the engine, and drift for several hours.

Still have the original bellows - being replaced this year by marina...I'm a touch gimpy yet so I'll let them do it this time around.

420 on my 2006 Mercruiser Scorpion. We had one season where we really were not out at all and it first went in the water in 2007. 3000+ on my 1980 Mercruiser 470. The hour meter bust twice on it but it does not get used much now. It was only underwater once, about 10 years ago.

Yeah, looks like us inland boaters average about 30 hours a year pretty consistently. Although like you pointed out, if I'm out on the lake for 10 hours I'd venture to guess 6-7 of those are spent with the engine off.

I'm impressed to see some of the guys with hours into the thousands.... and reassured when it's the same power train as I have, lol.

Re: How many hours are on your engines/drives?

I'm not seeing any I/O's 'in the thousands' except one, plus a couple just over 1000. But there is comfort in seeing how many years they last, since every other comment about used boats is that that are all rotted out! Again, this poll is unscientific and one really can't draw many conclusions.

Nonetheless I am amazed at how little use the boats get. Without my hour meter ( and this one is my first boat with a meter; I added it) there is no way I could estimate or even guess my use. For one thing, for this boat, I don't have a typical or routine type of outing, but about a dozen or more different things I do, from short runs to 60 mile days to tubing near home to cocktail cruises. Then a totally different model for another boat I use for transportation and might not actually run but an hour or two the whole weekend.

All I can say is, run them as much as you can! Life is short! Don't spare the horses!

Ah, ya caught me on a technicality, lol. "thousands" wasn't exactly correct. What I meant was "over a thousand" was impressive to me.

I think one of the things that keeps my hour meter from spinning any faster is how fast the fuel pump has to spin with it, lol.

1985 larson bowrider, area I got it from I know well, inland lakes. Based on the 30 hour a year formula, its at 840 hours,no hour meter. But knowing the small areas it was at and perfect compression, strong oil pressure, great running,I think its much less. I will be inatalling an hour meter when I get the hull rebuilt.

Re: How many hours are on your engines/drives?

The Regal's meter shows 2200 hours. Don't know about the drive. Though I can see lower unit has been replaced not all too long ago by the sticker on it. I wonder if it is correct. The Century has no meter, but I replaced the outdrive with a SEI unit last year. It must have about 30 hours on it.
