How much water to run engine with muffs?

My patience worn thin today (as far as the weather goes) and I decided to fire-up my 115HP Johnson that has been sitting winterized. I hooked-up the hose muff and started the engine. All the water seemed to be squirting out from under the muff during the run. Shouldn't I see most of the water exiting through the prop??? I also had zero PSI on my water pressure gauge. I chickened-out real fast and chopped the ignition. I ran it for 5 minutes at the most. Exhaust cover and heads were hot to the touch. Could my house water pressure or volume be too low? Any input or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

I'm guessing your waterpump impeller is in need of replacement. If you had enough water pressure on the muffs to have it squirting out around the ears,I don't think its a pressure issue.

Check and make sure your "ear muffs" are completely covering the water intakes , and check your intakes to make sure they aren't glogged with wind blown debris, if you don't see water coming out the "pee hole" or exhaust right after starting ,shut her down something ain't right...Good luck

when i hook my 74 70 hp evinrude up to muffs water comes out the two holes at the top but not a stream. same as when im in water it just comes out in a flow not alot of pressure. i can run the boat for a hour up the lake wide open and take cover off and its warm but not hot enough to burn you. i thought my waterpump may be bad this is my first boat and most boats shoot streams of water.

My 120 V4 takes a while to build up pressure, there is a lot of space that has to fill up. Even then thge pee hole just dribbles, this is normal. If you ran for 5 minutes and nothing then its time to perform maintenance on the water pump. When was it last done?

When I bought the boat back in February, the owner told me he replaced the water pump every two years and that it wasn't due again until next year. So the pump should only be a year old. I have a water temp gauge on it's way to compliment my pressure gauge. Once that's installed, I'll be putting the boat in the water for the real test...
