44 here, but sometimes I feel more like 60 with all the old injuries catching up with me. Of course I don't see myself being mobile enough to do this when I'm 60 if I get that far. And of course, another one here with a bad case of MBS, I'm at 4 now but looking at #5.

Re: How Old Are the Boat Restorers Out There?

Alto I may be the oldest (age wise) I have to say.. I've been bitten by the boat bug big time...A few months ago I bought a 1966 Gulf Stream from a person I've known for about 4 years. Got it for $300.00. The boat hadn't been run for about 8 years. I didn't check it out like I should have. It looked great sitting on the trailer. I got her home and then it happened..The previous owner didn't know about the extensive water damage. Rusted out cylinder #4, in the engine, rusted out carb.,rotted out floor, rotted out transom, etc. But you know what?? I like the old boat. It has class. And I feel that I'm up for the challange and I will get it done. Thanks for this great Forum and for your help, I'm up for the challange. I'm 74 years young and life is great. This comming Dec 4th, will be our 50th year of marrage. Wow just think I will have been married for longer than most of you have been alive. Thanks.. from your old boating NUT.. Ray

23 here, first restore, big plans for the '89 VIP Vision 1700 I bought from my friend for $450. Looking to repower with an Alpha 1 sterndrive driven by a 383 stroker. Plan to build custom interior, sundeck, custom speaker setup, wakeboard tower. I'm sure this build is going to cost me close to an arm and a leg.

38, old enough to afford this hobby, but wondering why I'm doing it! :D I keep thinking, "didn't you go to college so you wouldn't have to do things like sand fiberglass?" :D

I'm 40 on Monday. Looks like most who take these projects on are 30s - 40s. :)
