Okay, I thought I had everything correct when I ordered my new lower unit, however, it turns out that I have a 30" shaft rather than a 25" shaft that I thought I had. So now I have a new lower unit but it has the wrong length shaft. I was told on this forum before I ordered it that I could change the shaft as long as they were both 1 piece shafts (which they are). The question I should have asked at the time was "how hard is it to do just that?"
I have a Clymer service manual and all it does is tell you how to take the entire gear case apart and it is pretty daunting and requires special tools. Is there a better way to do this or is that what is required? If there is another way, please explain because I'm worried now that I just wasted money on this lower unit.
