Have you gone through the actual instruction book that came with the TV? I know I hate reading those, so normally I go to the manufactures website and read the .pdf copy, I had to do this last week when I purchased my new TV

I suspect it is something like the remote button labeled pic size > native if you have at least one 1080p source. The others should still come in at whatever they are. RTFM is such a burden. I truly do empathize with you.

Are you feeding the tv through an hdmi input? If you are using component cables, some TVs can't do 1080p on them. Some do and some don't.

Online manual here: http://intra.oncorpus.com/UM LED55C55R120Q .pdf

Appears to say it needs to be HDMI or DVI input.

Click "menu" button.

Arrow over to the "setup" box, "select" it.
Arrow down to the "video style" selector.
Arrow left or right to select "video". You can toggle between "video" and "graphic". You want "video".

Hitting the "display" button should show the res. Mine shows 720, as thats what my input is.
It should show the res for that particular broadcast. Also, if the channel has an "a" in front of the channel number, it is an analog channel/source. A "d" in front of the channel number indicated digital.

The other option is "graphic". Appears to be for computer input ?
If I switch it to "graphic", the display shows something like 1280x688, or some similar number.

If you tune to a channel like ESPN, broadcasting a bball game now, They have their logo and graphics on the bottom of the screen.
Toggle back and forth between the "video and graphic" menu options and keep watching the ESPN logo, you can see the image quality change.

You have the Directv set properly? You also to have it selected to 1080p and the correct aspect ratio.

Depending on what receiver you have, it will show what resolution it is outputting on the front. Its an HD receiver right?

The TV is probably displaying the source refresh rate....which is 60hz. Nothing you will do is going to change that. Depending on which settings you have turned on/off the TV may or may not be displaying the image to you in "120hz"

When I purchased my 120hz tv I ran into the same problem, ended up calling the local cable company as I could get 1080p going but couldnt get 120hz..I was told at that time the cable company only broadcasts in 60hz and I was essentially SOL on the 120hz refresh rate.. but I do get 1080 on hdmi cable.

There are no broadcasts over 60Hz. There are actually probably no broadcasts of frame rate even at 60, just the field rate. There is no need and it just uses extra bandwidth. The 120Hz is a upconvert done inside the TV.

Correct. The TV is just upconverting the input signal.

hmmm Now I am intrigued, when I change channels up in the left hand corner it gives the 1920x1080i@ 60hz...Those numbers change depending on what channel i am watching... Im wondering if I have a setting wrong, that isnt allowing me to get to 120hz... I just accepted the cable company answer and figured 120hz wasnt an option for me in my area... Anyone familiar with setup and controls on samsung tv to get 120hz setting?

At least for the resolution it will. Set it to 1080P if you actually have a choice. Blu-ray will be 1080P and a few premium pay per views will be 1080P. I kinda doubt you would see much of a difference between 60Hz and 120Hz on your TV anyway.
