How to inspect oil pump?

I assume the 2 cycle outboards have one. I want to make sure the one on the boat I just bought is in near excellent operational condition. I don't want to have to rebuild and engine because the oil pump went bad when the motor is in great condition.

Any help appreciated.

Your engine oil is mixed with your gas in a 2 cycle engine. So no oil pump unless it is an injected system then the pump just mixes oil with gas for you.

It is a '96 Mariner 125hp...So I should not be worried by it. I've had the oil pump go bad on my 2 stroke ski and lost a piston

not sure if that is an injected engine or not do you mix your oil in your gas tank or do you have a seperate tank for the oil?

I have a separate tank for the oil...
