I bought a '98 Johnson 9.9 elec start for my sailboat, figuring I would wire a starter button and be good to go. I see now that there is no F/N/R gear selector like on my 5hp Nissan. Also since the John has no tiller, I have no throttle control. I guess the elec choke could be wired to a switch. My reasoning for not getting the remote - is cost, and with all the sailing lines in the cockpit, I'm sure the throttle lever would constantly be snagging the lines er sheets as we salty dogs call them. I have ordered a service manual to help with the start & choke issues. Any ideas for shift & throttle control? Is there a cleaner/better way than the factory remote? thanks for any and all suggests thrown my way!
