How to plain boat even with water surface

I have a 16 foot 40 hp. It is a outboard engine. But whenever I crank the engine full speed the boats front goes up. How do I keep it straight? Also, I have my engine all the way in the water.

Two things to look at. Is your motor set at the pin closest to the transom? If not, move it down one or two holes. Then look into weight distribution. Where do you have your gas tank? Move it, and any other heavy items, forward.

So many variables. As ARG pointed out, motor trim and weight distribution can be too big elements. Your specific boat is another factor. The bow comes up on every boat when you initially get on plane. It should come down some but will never be as if you're sitting still in the water. If you've got the motor trimmed as close to the transom as possible then you should distribute more weight to the front (batteries, gas, anchors, etc)

Is it possible that my engine should not be fully in? I press the button until the engine won't go anylower.

Depending on what kind of boat that 40 hp is pushing could make a difference as well. I.e. a big pig like a Bayliner Capri. Weight forward motor all the way in until on plane then trim motor up.

Check the outboard mounting. You will see that it can be moved up/down - there are a number of holes and a pin that locks the motor into place. If there are some holes available between the motor and the transom, try moving the motor DOWN to the next available hole. See if this makes a difference and helps it plane. You will have to experiment a little with the settings and the weight distribution - and remember that everything will change when you add a passenger to the load :(

If the above suggestions don't help, one more thing to check is the correct vertical positioning of the motor. The ant-cavitation plate should be within 1/2" above the keel when motor is trimmed down and plate is parallel to the keel.

Some replies here were made without fully reading your question.

You have power trim - when on the trailer trim it all the way in (down), then trim it up just a hair. You should detect a "stop" point where it can't go down any further. If it isn't all the way down, your trim needs some work.

All the way down - look at the anti-ventillation plate. It should be parallel with the boat bottom, or slightly lower at the back. If its higher at the back its another indication that the trim system is defective. Forget the height above or below the bottom for now - you're trying to plane the boat, not perfect it.

Now, explain further - is the bow high WHEN you get to full speed, or does it go high WHILE you're trying to get there, but flatten out when you are?

I'm thinking I would want to understand exactly what the OP means by "...the boats front goes up. How do I keep it straight?". That tied with the posts heading of "How to plain boat even with water surface." makes me wonder if he is expecting the boat to run perfectly level when wide open. We don't even know what kind of boat this is. With a lot of boat designs he can get into a lot of trouble if he tries to get it to run too flat when wide open.

Which replies would they be? If you take the thread heading into consideration, he is saying he can't get it to plane.

The ones that gave wrong answers because they didn't understand that he has power trim.

Until you have experienced the front and back swap ends in about .1 seconds because of extreme bow steer, nobody truly understands what having an engine pointed too far down can do!
