You can try one of those wall paper poking rolly things, that the technical term for them I think. Then spray it with fabric softener.
That should loosen the glue to get it off.
There are also chemical strippers... but I dont like to use them unless they are needed.
A product called "Sticker Off", doesnt work for poopy, and cost a ton.

Yes, it will soften the vinyl/glue so its not as likely to tear/crack when being peeled back. I actually managed to remove my 82 Evinrude ones virtually intact albeit stretched using a hairdryer, you will definitely get bigger pieces off at a time using one, it will take patience with a decal that size though. There may be some glue left behind which can be removed with a suitable solvent.

A heat gun works awesome. You could probably pick one up for around 20 bucks. It will save you hours of work. Decals will peel right off. Here is a couple pics of mine.

That's allot of decal to remove....... take lots of pictures....then sand it off. Since you are going to repaint anyway....... a vibe sander will make very short work of it.

Heat gun works every time along with some patients and time then clean the leftover glue off with a good hand sanitizer

You might also try "goo gone" instead/in addition to the sanitizer.

+1 on the Goo-Gone. I used that to take the old hull numbers off my boat when heat gun failed. Old numbers came off lickity-split.

All I did with the residue is heat it up a bit with the gun and rubbed my thumb over it and it peeled right off.

Believe it or not, wd40 works great on some (not all) adhesives once the decal is removed. It's worth a shot if you have a can sitting on the shelf.

WD40 is full of silicon though which will still be there even after sanding and prep, new paint and silicon hate each other, i would avoid using it, jmo.
