Re: How to remove

Do you have a pic without the red circle, there seems to be a bolt on the housing end that may be what needs to be removed to allow total removal.

The red circle is encircling the shifter part and the only thing that is coming out the other end is the shifter cable. Not sure how to get the shifting block(?) off.

Here is a pic without the red circle for those that would like to see it without the circle.

Re: How to remove

Kelly you have to remove the whole shift cable assembly to get the part in the picture off. There is a small set screw in the end of the arm in the photo that should be lock wired.

Re: How to remove

Am I taking this right? I need to unhook the cable from the control up in the cabin and remove it through the outdrive to get that piece off? I thought that the piece in the end had to unscrew somehow, and just like everything else it does not want to come out:(. May have to drill out the screw and then retap it and add some anti-seize to the bolt when I replace it. Dang, now am gonna have to buy me a drill press to fix this. What a bummer to have to buy more tools. Wound up with a new compressor on Saturday as well since mine would not fire up first thing in the morning.

Re: How to remove

The cable is removed from the block mounted on the inside of the transom, depending on the type of cable it will have a piece of staineless steel tube about 4in long crimped to the end. You will have to remove this then the cable will slide out of the sheath and you can pull it through the shift arm after the set screw is removed. You will want to replace the lower shift cable anyways as it probably hasn't been done for a long time as the photos show. They stretch and can cause shift problems.

Re: How to remove

the allen screw is to lock the cable inside the shifter arm at that end of the cable, then the safety wire is attached.

You can then remove the lower shift cable housing and replace that too..

I like the extreme edition cable something like 18-2190E is the sierra number.

If you're going to replace the cable, you can also replace that end peice and the shifter arm as they can get melted and worn.

If you were having hard shifting in the water, the shift interupt circuit can be to blame.
