How to replace AQ125A raw water pump sealing ring #12

I am trying to replace the AQ125A raw water pump sealing ring #12 and have a couple of question. The seal has a front and a back side, which way does the seal go in? Is there a trick to getting the seal in without pounding it with a rubber mallet? Thanks.

Need the picture you used to know what seal number 12 is.

Never us a mallet, gently press it in.

The lip of the seal faces the impeller (Towards the water).
I normally gently tap the seal in with a hammer keeping the seal as square to the bore as possible.
