Re: how to rise the bow

Thought I would post this to give everyone a visual less the cabin.

Nice boat crying for a bigger motor. A 9.9 would make a nice kicker.

Re: how to rise the bow

The keel line of this boat is very long and straight, with a sharp "V" at the planing point (not much lift). And if you notice, the shape of the stern lines look like the hull would actually force the bow down, as you are experiencing. This is a very nice boat, but it looks more like it is designed, not for speed and planing, but for cutting through the waves rather than riding on top of them.

It's rated for a 50 hp max. A 25 hp just isn't going to be enough (even though they say 15 hp min). And by the looks of the hull, trimming affects with the outboard alone could be tough to accomplish.

It simply looks like this boat is not designed to plane with a 25 hp.

alone,

That is a very interesting boat. You do however have a very deep entry (bow) and a sharp deadrise along with a deep keel.

25 hp. may just not be enough to get this thing up. The other issue you suffer from is that the 25 does not have a great deal of prop. blade area to carry a load.

The only thing I can think of is shimming the engine mount to give you more positive trim angle.

Re: how to rise the bow

Yes, almost somewhat of a displacement type hull rather than a planing hull. Or better yet, a combination of the two. Probably a very good rough water boat with more power.

As a point of interest, I calculated the USA Coast Guard horsepower ratings to your boat dimensions....

5.2 meters length = 17 feet
1.8 meters beam = 5.9 feet

(I will assume the beam width is at the stern and you have a 20" transom.)

Factor = length X beam = 17 feet X 5.9 feet = 100.3

For tiller (no remote steering)....

HP = (Factor X .8) - 25

So, (100.3 X .8) - 25 = 55.24 HP. The formula allows raising to next higher multiple of 5 hp. So with a tiller the boat could be rated in the US for 60 HP.

Interestingly, with remote steering....

HP = (2 X Factor) - 90

So, (2 X 100.3) - 90 = 110.6. Raising to next 5 hp gives 115 HP for remote steering.

Just to give an idea of how the 25 HP will perform

Interesting figures Forktail and just doing a visual of the hull they also seem rational.It would seem that the rig could handle a remote 90hp sweetly or at least a 70.

From my pilot experience it looks like you have too much weight forward. Make sure all gas and everthing is moved toward the stern and add a heavy higher output motor. The weight is out of balance.

I agree with Forktail,

From amidships to the stern it appears to be tapering downward.This design would create a "low bow" situation,especially at speed.The design would act like a giant (built-in) trim tab on the boat,keeping the nose down.

Well guys, You all made me feel good. I seemed to ask the right question(s) and because if it, we all got to look at some neat Turkish boats.
Toot toot tootin my own horn.

But seriously, I think we may have zero-ed in on the problems, design and power.

Now, is there anything we can do to solve the situation, besides taking up a collection and sending it to Erdem?

Alone...that's the question. Is this your boat without the cabin? A 'similiar' boat throws 'things' way off; if you know what I mean. Did you take the boat for a test ride before you bought it or one 'just' like it. How did that run? :(

Alone

The boats looks good, and as already replied looks to handle excellent in rough seas. Is it the 515 you own - it looks exactly like your description. If the boat weighs 380 kgs w/o motor, 25 HP seems a little low, keep all weight in the back !

Happy New Year Everbody,
Midnight, I was on the boat in the middle of the harbour with my wife, blowed up a champagne and watched the fireworks on the sky and listened the rattles of handguns welcome the new year..
My boat is the open version of the boat in the picture. Another manufacturer made it but used the same mould. It is 17' long ( 5.20meters )
and 628 lb. ( 285 kilograms ) weight. I didn't test it before buying it. I paid $ 1000 for it.
(In Turkish Liras 1.650.000.000)

Re: how to rise the bow

Hi again Alone

1000$ is a VERY good price for a new boat of that class ! I have a 16´ Ørnvik, a swedish boat very similar, in weight and dimensions. Its 485 cms L, 181 cms W and weighs 280 kgs. Its running great with an older 35 Hp evinrude I rebuild.

Earlier I had an old 25HP Evinrude from 73, it ran great with that too.

Keep working on where to put your tank, and gear. If you are two in boat, try to get the other to move back when first you are on plane.

OK after this one and a great celebration. I figured it out he needs to use a "metric' adjustable wrench.
