Hi guys I need a little help starting an old johnson for the first time. I noticed the cylinders look dry and that the carbs on that side are closed when I try to start it. Everything I have read says to keep the outboard in neutral so that side of the carbs are closed. It is a 1970 60 hp. It is spinning fast and has new spark plug wires. Every now and then I see a little bit of white smoke and a little puff noise but that's all I'm getting. The carburetors have just been rebuilt and I see fuel sitting in them.

No. I'm just checked all three one by one by holdong the plugs to a ground metal while craning. Nothing... How do I check power pack voltage. Is it the black and whit wore going to the flywheel?

pretty sure its a magneto ignition. I've got the flywheel off and I'm going to try and adjust the points now.

Sorry i should have added at cranking. The amp has to see that in order to fire.

Did what gold ole Joe Reeves said by taking the coil and touching the ground together with the pack/amp. I got a big blue spark from up to 1/2 an inch away whereas Joe said 1/4 inch was fine. So i think I can rule out the pack. I know I can rule out the coil because it is new.

A 1970 60hp would not have a Magneto Ignition. It has a points fired battery CD Ignition
