Re: Upholstery Spray Adhesive

All my upholstery research led me to this product...

3M™ Super 77™ Multipurpose Adhesive

I just got off the phone and I found a supplier in town for that product and am having 2 cans picked up as we speak. I also found in my research that seems to be what most are using. Should be back to work as I will be all set up for upholstery now.

Thanks Woodonglass

Re: Upholstery

I just spent the afternoon setting up my upholstery station in the rec room. I finished a side panel in around an hr after starting to staple. The Boss aka my better half is happy with the outcome , so that is all that matters :) I am going to upload some upholstery videos a little later.

here it is

Well that 1 certainly looks good! I like the pleat detail at the end of the white vinyl. Nice attention to detail, they really make a big difference. Especially if the Boss approves.:D

Thanks for the compliment, I appreciate your encouragement. I said earlier I was doing a video. I did up a little video on how I tore it all apart and got everything ready. Here it is it is my first try at trying something like this and the quality is not real good. I will try and edit it a bit later and clean it up but here you go.

I did up another video when I was assembling it and will upload that one when I get it edited etc.

PS: I am going to leave that video up but have decided I am going to do a new one when I take my next panel apart. I am going to do a start to finish complete. Hopefully I can get a better quality camera or I can try to set it up just to show the work up a little closer

thanks

Re: I am Back With Wet Foam

Well sorry folks for the picture problem . I been trying to find out what happen. I let my son use my photobucket account to do up some pictures on a dirt jump bike he is building. I never realized how much money you can tie up in just a bicycle. His first bicycle cost him 1500 3 years ago, I will not say what he has in this one all I said was you need theft insurance hehehehe. I guess what happen is he went to delete his album and deleted mine instead. There were pictures still here and there and the thread was just mixed up so I edited the rest of the pictures. I guess I will have to start out a new thread from here on in and when I am done I will make a shorter finished restore thread. Hopefully I can find my old pictures somewhere.

cheers

Upholstery

Upholstery

First new Photo:facepalm:

Just thought I would post a pic of my upholstery. I used the old foam as I only had one cushion wore from someones butt ;) and that was the bow cushion. If in the end I am not happy I will replace the foam but I think I will be happy with how it looks. I have most of the boat done except the bow cushions and the bench seat...playing around with free hand stripes and am happy with how they are going. Here is a picture of the port side and some cushions...you can see where the cup holders are going:)

Cheers

Wow OJ, that's awesome!! Did you use an industrial sewing machine? Just finished reading your thread and we've both struggled with alot of the same challenges. Several I'm still on the fence about...back to the garage.

Thanks WOG especially for sharing the videos and info you found as it helped me alot.

Holy crap, that looks pro!
Thanks ezmobee I worked hard trying to achieve what I would expect if I had to pay someone.

Thanks Irish, I bought a singer model 66 . It was used for making sails etc and is from the 1940 era. picked it up on ebay. Works awsome and has so much speed control. I have went through 6 layers of vinyl with 1 layer of foam. I had to take my time, but 2-4 layers you don't notice at all. Mine only has the smaller motor too, so if I upgrade to the bigger motor it would probably do anything you throw at it.
There are alot of decisions to make. I had a plan when I bought the boat but after coming here and getting advice from some very knowledgable people your plans will change.

I have to say again Thanks to everyone , I find the biggest thing is to have Patience , Patience, I can't stress this enough and do not quit one panel or cushion until you are happy. The next one will go alot faster.

Cheers

Waterproofing below deck

Waterproofing below deck

Well I was able to use up the ip 2000e that I had laying around. I decided to use it to waterproof my ski locker , under the gas tank and bilge areas before I add the cleats and close in the deck and finish it all off. I am finishing the whole deck off with another layer of 6 oz cloth and epoxy resin

I got some good info from some fiberglass fishing boat builders over the winter. They use the polyester resin to manufacture their boats but have found sealing these areas and they also seal around the stringers( but I had my floor sealed up first so that never got done) with an epoxy product has given them a better product then just sealing with gelcoat. They found that since there is flexing in the fiberglass hull the epoxy flexes enough to not show any hair line cracks that would appear in gelcoat if there is flexing. Probably overkill but I had to use it up :)

Here are some pics

Will be getting back to my project after I deal with something out of my control

Cheers

Carpet Seams

Carpet Seams

Well I just thought I would throw this out and see what ideas people have.

I know my boat originally had pieces of carpet over each compartment . So you could get by with running 6 ft wide carpet the length of the boat. I would love to seal these compartment areas and run complete carpet. But the only way to do this is to get a 12ft wide piece about 20 ft long. With shipping it is hard to get a good price on it delivered.

Has anyone run carpet in the opposite direction say in 3 full pieces accross the deck and up the sides of the hull and have a seam under the front console in front of your feet and another seam under the back bench. Then the seams would be hidden.

What did or do you guys do or recommend instead of my 3 piece idea?

Thanks

Re: Carpet Seams

If there are any carpet pros surfing the site please chime in.

I would like to get some ideas before I order my stuff. Maybe I will just not seal my gas tank and ski locker area then I could get by with running smaller in width stuff like original.

Cheers
