Re: I am STUMPED! please HELP!

excuse me, sorry for the confusion. I mean its running way too lean. I need to make it more rich. the plugs were way too clean. I need to get that nice brownish tan color. I picked up some more plugs today. Gonna go out on the lake and try to get that just right. Im curious if there is an adjustment to increase my rpms in neutral at WOT

WOT in neutral is a big No No, Chief, the idle adjustment is a screw that's on the port side and serves as a throttle stop...follow the tiller arm to its end and this screw will be just beyond the vertical shaft gear..it should have a spring around it....set the idle with the boat on the water and in fwd pushing the boat...I think most call for 650-700 rpm..enough so that it won't die in gear and will cause no banging when you shift it into gear from neutral...it'll take some fine tuning with the idle mixture needle adjustment as well

Re: I am STUMPED! please HELP!

ok thank you..it doesnt sound like its really running that hard at all when its WOT in neutral thats why im kind of stumped...It doesnt make much sense to me...And when its WOt in neautral its a smooth shift into forward...I would think if it was running as hard as it could in neutral I wouldnt be able to shift into forward with ease...Is it possible that there is some kind of retricter on it preventing me from opening her up in neutral? I know its not a good thing to be at high RPMs in neutral..

Well my cousin decided to take out my plugs when he put them back in he stripped the top plug hole out!!!!!!! 143 dollars for a new head assembly. Not happy. I dont want to put in a rethreading kit either...Went down that road on my last outboard.

You might get away with installing a helicoil - just be sure to pull the head, if you go this route.

Re: I am STUMPED! please HELP!

Well my new head should be coming any time today in the mail. Tim's outboard set me right up. I noticed I have a little fuel puddling up in the carb throat while running. I am almost positive that all the gaskets are on the carb just right and that the needle and seat and float are all set correctly. What would cause this?

excess fuel in the carb throat usually suggests that the float needle isn't quite seating properly. you may want to take the carb off and give it a good cleaning/inspection. You can get a rebuild kit right here at iboats for about $25, if need be. Here are some handy links that can tell you what to look for.

Yup its got a brand new carb rebuild kit in it. The carb is as clean as a whistle. Took out all the plugs and everything and ran small gauge wire through the entire thing. Thats why I am a little confused here

Re: I am STUMPED! please HELP!

The carb may well be clean, but the float needle can still get stuck from time to time. If that's not it, I'm inclined to think that some gas is leaking/dripping from the packing around the lo speed needle and finding it's way into the carb throat where it pools up, but that's only a guess.
