While the floors look rough, I climbed in and walked around and they are solid for the most part. (under the splash well is a bit soft) I'll strip off the vinyl and may just cobble some cheap carpet to cover and avoid splinters.

The B2B seats are all there and slide in and out well but the drivers seat needs a cobble to reattach the hinge that mates the halves. Any quick fixes for this? I'd love to hear them.

The lights, what's the chances these are originals? Not holding my breath but aren't recently off the shelf.

And does this mean I'll eventually need a renaming ceremony?

The trailer, while thankfully made the 110 mile trip home with grace, has seen better days for sure. All the keel rollers are junk and the spring in the axle gave up long ago so the cap just rides right on top of the axle.

Luckily he was nice a guy and sold me half a tilt trailer for an extra $50.

Plan is to down the road remove the tongue from shot trailer and use for tilt trailer. All in all between project boat, project trailer, and gas money I'm in for $600. Not a rat killin deal but I'm thinking I come out the other side at or under $1000 and have a good fill in boat until I get my bigger FG boat done. Then of course it'll be time to do a full on resto on this girl. :)

I think with a running 50hp it's not far off from a "rat killin deal", Years ago I gave $400 for the same boat completely gutted, no engine and a tore up trailer. Check out what people are getting for motors on CL you'll be amazed. Nice deal man. Congrats!

Nice score man! Those pipe clamps kill me, holy cow that's a scary setup! I can see one of those slipping off at about 25 mph and the OB going for a swim:eek:

That stern light looks original to me:)

You got a good deal there and it even runs!! Transom should be a piece of cake and you could even replace the rearmost floor piece to if it's soft then do a full rebuild over winter.

Well it's Official... You are a "TINNER" and have gone BACK to the DARK SIDE!!!!! JAS will be PROUD of you!!!!

Seriously, that appears to be a SWEET Boat and should cleanup nice. I know for sure the transom will be a LOT easier than the Glass one was but heck, you're a PRO Glasser NOW!!!!

I thought it was priced right but hearing all that makes me feel better.

Got the motor off and transom out today, so hopefully I'll get a lamination made and painted through out the rest of the weekend/next week and I'll have that back together by the end of next weekend.

Not much was left of the old board, about 1/3 came out in a chunk rest came out as handfuls of mulch. As for the clamps once the motor came off and there was no pressure they lifted right off. No loosening, just lifted right off. I'm still in awe that he was running it that way.

I really don't want to mess with the floors just for time reasoning but I may have to. The corner under the well with the dirt and small plants may be a bit more than just soft. I'll have to see how bad it is once I get to actually cleaning it out.

Since we know tubing is in the plans, should I add actual eyes as I rebuild or will the handles work? Would it be useful to put both on?

Easier it is Wood, If it wasn't for waiting for the parts, and getting the board sealed I think I'd be boating this afternoon. :D

The splashwell tubes that came out were AL, they are out of stock will brass be ok?

Still looking/staring/figuring ski rings, in the post above you can see the three bolt hole down each side. These are through bolted to bracing in the gunwales. Would it matter which I chose? Top to keep the rope high, middle to spread the load? Any thoughts?

Re: I got a (new)question for you Starcraft guys

I finally noticed HA's Starcraft brochure link and I and was amazed as I'm pretty sure the seats are the originals recovered and looks like the only thing missing is the little step pads on the gunwale. Any guesses as to what motor would of originally came on this? It has a spot on the dash for an ignition and a choke button.

I got the blank for the trans glued up yesterday, hopefully have it shaped and start coating it today. Think I'm just going to give it a good coating of polyurethane and call it done. I still need to know about the brass drain tubes. I think brass and AL are ok with each other but not sure.

I also replaced the steering cable which was a bungled adventure. Pulled the old cable out and since it had tape marking the middle (relative to the hub) I measures both legs, measured out the new cable and cut it. Right as I was putting on the hub I remembered that I had to cut one end off to get the cable out. I didn't add for it in my measurements.

Luckily there was enough cable to work about 6 - 8" over to the other side. Got it all hooked up, tested it, and was quite proud of myself. Worked nice and smooth, then I looked up and noticed the steering wheel was 180 out. Spent the rest of the evening slacking one side and tightening the other to adjust it. Its not perfect but its close. I ended up one wrap off center of the hub but it goes lock to lock so I think it'll be ok.

I'm sure I didn't invent this (possibly restating it) but a tip to help get the cables tensioned is to pre load the springs by pulling on them and drop a shim in the center. Then you can pull your cables tight and tighten them without fighting the springs too.

02SCSteeringSpring.jpg

I do need to ask can you put too much tension on these cables? I notice its a bit stiffer in the final setup. I'm thinking the cable might stretch a bit ands loosen up or maybe my OCD will strike and I'll go for adjusting to center again.

Also would a guy be wise to carry an extra 50' of cable just in case? Or by the time this cable breaks I should of noticed it anyway and its my own fault.

Most wise would be to just ditch the darn thing and go to a single cable system. You can get a complete system, even including a wheel, for like $130.

As for what motor......best I can tell, Starcraft did not sell bundled boat/motor packages so it could have had anything on it.

The short answer is that dissimilar materials are always galvanically incompatible. I'd stick with Aluminum drain tubes if it was me.

Re: I got a (new)question for you Starcraft guys

Well all my parts from iboats arrived yesterday, now if I just had the drain tubes that I had to order elsewhere:mad: They are suppose to be here Monday, hoping they might show today but not holding my breath.

I ordered 4200 as according to plan in a few years this will come back apart for the full job. I don't think I'll need the whole tube but wanted to make sure I had enough. If I start this today is the whole tube truly going to be no good in 24hrs? Also do I truly need the 3m product or will any poly based sealant work? I can get PL locally easily.

Maybe I'll work on the trailer today.

I pulled the seats out and ripped up the loose floor covering. Was shop-vacing the dirt, leaves, ect. when the wife walked up and said "This what your waiting on?"

Ripped open the box and keep the hope alive I have drain tubes. :D

Transom will be done this weekend and if I'm really lucky might go for a test ride.

Re: I got a (new)question for you Starcraft guys

Keeping in mind the only one he had listed was the blue I/O, I never asked but he had tossed 900 out in passing along w/ I ought to list it on CL. The quick glance I gave it through the weeds, it looks to be in pretty rough shape.

Didn't get much done today short of getting the dirt out, assessing the floor, formulated a band aid for said floor, made and painted an outer motorboard, ran for supplies, swapped out the throttle cable, and cleaned and regreased the throttle parts in the control box. So maybe a test ride this weekend is ambitious but I'll settle for next weekend too.

Saw that Woody, your rolling right along too.

Speaking of moving right along,

I started little after 8. Outer motor board on, added tow rings, installed drain tubes, handles on. Been working in the blazing sun so came in to cool off for a bit and send the wife after the little nails for the cap I forgot to get last night.

Man the tubes came out great, I was scared to do them but after the first it was a "what was all the worry thing". I don't know which one to claim I erred on but one hole ended up going through a tad low but will be fine. Another just cause I'm proud of how factory they look.
