Hey wrfalpalcas, I have tried to Private Message you a couple times, to no avail,site must be having probs. Anyway, I am going back with my new transom wood. I was just gonna use 2x 3/4 acs, but I happened upon 2x 3/4 birch. So, I just got them because the price was right. I have inspected what was left of my old transom material, I am searching for any type of fasteners that might have been used to fasten the old two pcs of ply together. Maybe I am looking for something that doesent exist. At any rate, I would imagine that I could glue, epoxy, resin the two pcs together, then water proof them, then install them. Are you at that point with your build yet? Thanks in advance-

I put a layer of epoxy down on each side, then a second coat of epoxy to fasten them together. In an effort to ensure adhesion i used deck screws to hold the two pieces together,(i screwed them together from both sides). I've seen other people park cars on top of them as well. Then i put two coats of epoxy over the exposed sides covering up the screws.

Thanks Timfives- By the way, what brand/type of epoxy did you use? I have seen many different types- they all claim to be the best. The original wood that I took out looked like regular pine plywood, and all it had was remnants of the original paint on it. I guess wood preservation was not to high back then. Thanks again for the info.

I used the West System epoxy. it is expensive, so do some research and find a reputable brand. I know the West System is good stuff, if you can swing it then that is stuff to use. That being said, since i have to do my floors and forward bulkhead I just bought some off of ebay:

Not sure how good it will be, but the price is right, and they had good feedback.

I know EZ used some other stuff, gave fantastic results, but his absorbed a lot faster than the West System did so he had to use more. I think that is the biggest difference in Epoxy. Keep an eye on my thread, as i'll be using the new stuff in the next couple of days.

Just an update- New transom is in gonna replace the cuddy cabin wall this week, and put the floor in next week. Thanks for all the advice on the transom. Is it just me, or does West Marine just really suck??? I walked into my local store today. I simply wanted some new closed base cleats. I get stuck with a young punk kid with a major attitude telling ME why HE thought I was wasting MY money on cleats I want???? WTF????????

well, another update- Outdrive installed, engine installed, steering cable replaced, cabin walls installed, gonna lay my styro in tomorrow. Then I will start fitting the floors. I am using 3/4 birch ply. Then I am having my buddy spray down some color matched rhino lining. I should be worry free about a soggy floor if I am caught in a down poor. Anyone else tried this rhino lining in their boat?? I am gonna spray the floor and the side panels. I should be water tight then, any water should drop in by the dog house, and hit the bilge pump- uhmm, I hope.

I would think you'd want some kind of sealing or priming between the bare wood and the rhino. Not sure though. Make sure you do your research on that.

I think you may want to do a search on rhino or bed liner..
Many that used it did not care for it afterwards..
Would make ever replacing that deck a tough job..

The underside and edges of the wood will be epoxy sealed like my transom wood. The top exposed will be left in its raw form for maximum adhesive ability. According to the shop who is gonna spray it down, upon review of the suitable surface application chart, wood was #1, metal #2, fiberglass #3, etc, etc. The floor will be put down, the sides on top secured with the aluminum angle to the floor. The Scorpion product will be sprayed in 1/8" thick on the exposed surface and 1/4" in the corners. The cabin wall will also be sprayed 6"s up from the bottom creating a back splash of sorts. In the end, the walls, floor, and corners will have a very tight seal of this product. My fishing bud down here has a 36" Bertram Cruiser, His fishing deck is done about the same way with the same product, and it makes for great clean up after a day of fish and bait flopping on the deck. Sorry about the mistake, its a product called Scorpion, not Rhino.

Hey guys-
Just another thought, my bud's bertram has his sprayed over fiberglass, and he does have auto bailing deck drains. I ofcourse have only a sump-haha, so witht that said, I am just trying to find a long lasting, low maint, deck that will not have to be redone in 5 yrs. Carpet is most definetly out. And fiberglass seems like alot of work, with about the same results. I did however, see this totally cool floor/deck on a Islander that was done in solid plank teak- BEATIFUL!!! But it cost the guy $3k!!! It was more a show piece than anything else. I think I have a pic of it on one of our cell phones. I will try to find it and share it with all of you. Thanks again for all the help/opinions. I cant say this enough, this is a great site, with good folks

Soooo, I take it that you fellas have pondered that Teak option already??? I have the pics on my sons phone- they will be posted as soon as he gets back. Trust me, the guy did the deck, and his cabin wall was done in a stain finish of sorts??? to match. awesome configuration. I have no idea how he laid the teak down. No doubt, he must of had a sub flooring of sorts, either a solid 1/2" sheeting, or possibly hat channel to secure the teak to. Either way, a total johnson stretcher to look at-haha

New transom pic, prior to install. new cabin walls, new floors, I have coated the floors with a elastomeric covering. I will post some pics of that tomorrow. and new cuddy top vinyl- getting there. Gonna finally run her on the water tomorrow. Test run, see if she sinks or swims-lol

Top, Garmin GPS, fishfinder, radio, rod holders, well, for the most part its all done- not a collector's dream, but a well built functional boat. I know its not a spot on, rebuild like others I've seen here. But I can run her out 20 miles, catch what I want (after the oil spill damage of course) come home hose her off, and do it again next weekend. Thanks for the help and advice to all who chimed in.
