this is only a 20 footer.....

take the boat to the ramp......let it drain till all the water comes out.

then drive the boat on the trailer around town for 10 mins and go back to the ramp.

then drain it again......if no more water comes out.....then put it in......and have a look.

this just might be left over winter water or rain water draining.

if the boat is dry when you put it in......with out running the motor at the ramp.....look and see where it is coming in......as don said....only one way to find a leak......look for it

I've also had drain plugs leak. They idea of draining and then looking for a leak is a good idea

I drove it from Wash DC to Va Beach and back. I am going to take it to the ramp and try to find the leak without the motor on, Thanks.. great idea. If that dont work I am going to allow it to get water in it an take it out the water and look for a leak.

you got it backwards. either put water in it while it;s on the trailer and look for it coming out, or launch it totally dry and look for it coming in.

Ya normally I'm not a big fan of filling a boat with water to see where it leaks out but seems appropriate in this case.

Make sure the boat is fully drained, set it on an even keel, and start filling it from the drain plug Add some red or green food dye to the mix. That'll help you find the leak faster.

great idea. Now I need to get the neighbors from parked in front of the house. Fill it up and check for leaks. Safer than putting it in the water

Re: I just bought a bayliner trophy used and it is taking in water fast

Last August I bought a brand new Trophy 1802 W/A with O/B. I left it in my backyard all winter and it was covered with snow ,then this spring we had lots of rain storms. All seemed OK.I put it in the marina and it rained heavily over a three week period. When I went to the boat 3 weeks later the cuddy cabin had 6-8 ins of water in it.The bilge pumps had stopped working as the battery was dead from pumping all that water and more rain filled the boat up.I called Trophy and was told that when the hull and deck are put together they cant have anyone in between them and sometimes the drain hoses get pushed to the wrong side of the stringers and water will not drain but run into the cabin.Long story short, as it was still under warranty I was told to take it to a dealer and Trophy paid for all repairs.I tried it out in a small lake when I got it back and all looks good.Next week I will put it back in the marina in Lake Erie and keep my fingers crossed.

They're saying the hoses are unsupported too.

I ordered new scuppers friday. After looking over the boat and comparing it with another bayliner trophy I notice the rubber flaps on my boat was not flapping close ( they look like hard rubber stuck in the open position) The other boats scuppers was in a close position on the nomal, mine was open in the normal. I am going to replace them and put it on the water weds. I am hoping this is the problem so I can move on to the motor issues. 4 cycle motor that cant mix oil. I was instructed by a mechanic to mix the oil with the gas. 60 gallons of gas had set in the tank for 2 yrs. I put one can of mixture to gas ( should I add 2 or 3 bottles more?) I cant wait to get on the water and catch some rocks, trouts, and blues

Magnetron,

Are you saying you have a 4 cycle outboard engine? 4 cycle engines do not need oil mixed in with the gas, so your statement "4 cycle motor that cant mix oil" is not making sense to me. Oil in with the fuel is only a requirement for 2 cycle engines. Just sayin'...

On the taking on water issue, does the boat have livewells? They may be plumbed wrong or set to drain and not been plugged back up.

what year bayliner Trophy? My old boat was an 84 and the scuppers are so close to the water line, any small wave will fill the splashwell, and take a few minuted to drain back.. no big deal but if you have the rear compartment access port leaking, it will fill the bilge quickly. I replaced my port access with a screw in type, and never had a water issue again. Depending on the year Bayliner changed the splashwell opening to prevent water from waves splashing up into the deck. Here is a picture of my old boat, note how low it sits? on a bay normal waves will splash and fill the motor well. I added a auto pump to ease the minds of my passengers, never looks good when your feet get wet from a wave

This is an early trophy version, the next model year they molded the stern in all fiberglass, mine had the lift out board. Great for easy water access, or a calm lake, not the Delaware Bay known for 2-3 waves and wind.

The alarm kelp coming on and a mechanic in VA Beach said it was suppose to inject oil at the motor. He said it was oil enjected and the hose was plugged. He said if the engine dont get oil it wil lock up... ???? I have no idea. lol help. I took the boat out and it ran good at idle speeds but if I take it above 15 rpm's for 5 mins the alarm comes on (over eating) help

Do these scuppys look bad

I put half the boat in the water and alot of water drained out the boat. I think I found my problem. Do they look bad?

I replaced the scuppers and problem solved. They was not closing and located at the water line allowing water to fill up quickly. I took it out last night after the repair and NO MORE LEAK. Not a chance someone posted lol
