It's a Force motor, but I am told it uses a mercury ign system.
Model# 906X92C, Might have a HO in front of motor, or so I am told.
Serial# 029153
Here is my problem, I have no spark. I have no power to the switch pack,(power pack).
I have checked the stator with an ohm meter and it seems to check out ok. There is a black box inbetween the stator and the switch pack, I cannot find this part in a parts breakdown. There is a ground wire and 2 wires from the stator, Green/white and white/green on on end and a single blue wire on the other end going to the switch pack. I do not have any power on the blue wire. Is there a procedure for checking out the black box? The back side of the black box looks like it has a spot that looks like it has melted and spit black stuff onto the switch pack.
Any help would be appreciated, and thank you in advance.

Re: I know, I know

thinking the force guys could help you more... that said... perhaps some pics would be a lil easier as far as IDing the parts.
that said, it would appear from your discription that the black box of mystery may well be a voltage regulator, rectifier,or both. I could be just blowing smoke, and am pretty sure if i am wrong someone will point it out, but guessing G/W and W/G wire coming from stator, hitting rectifier/regulator and then going to switchbox. if this is all that is wrong there are several fixes besides the dealer item that will/can work. I know for my 20hp merc (smaller stator) i was able to use a jetski regulator rectifier that i got for $6 shipped off of flea bay. several of the guys either here or on the johnyrude forum have used rectifiers from something else entirely.. but i think they were working on older engines.. and I am thinking yours is a 92 90hp.... The plus side if it is a regulator rectifier is that is a relatively cheap fix.

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=229473&page=1 may be of some help

looking at pics of force wiring on ebay :D i thinking likely the G/W W/G is trigger wire for spark... as the Yellows appear to feed rectifier.

Re: I know, I know

I tried on the Force forum without much success.
The black box is not a volatge regulator, from what I can find on the net it is part of the ign system.
The ign system on this engine is supposed to be a mercury setup.
I just can't find any specs on it.
I wish this was an OMC product as I have quite a few years experience with them and all the manuals back to the 50's.
You are correct about it being a 92 90hp.

ummm forces from my exp were like TED WILLIAMS.... engines... kind of a mish mash of whatever parts were inexpensively available in bulk.

Re: I know, I know

I see they moved your post.
That is a adaptor that comes with the
red stator update kit. If it has black goo
coming out of it, does not sound good?
You can do a peak volt test at the switch box
and see if stator voltage gets thru it.
I think there's a ohms test, sorry I can't help there.
Maybe try google, mercury outboard red stator
troubleshoot, or specs?:)
