This sucks. I was installing a new cockpit heater and got down to the last connection at the waterpump. On my 454's there's a plug just above the lower hose that comes from the motors heat exchanger. I stuck a ratchet in, turned, and she broke. The plug has the outer ridge cracked off and she ain't coming out. My choices? I could remove the pump, drill it out and tap. Lots of work, as it's a half inch galvinized fitting. It's conna take a huge bit and i don't even know if i can find a tap that big locally. I'm wondering, since this is for the water return can i tap in elsewhere? Why cant i cut the hose going into the heat exchanger and install a tee? Would it circulate right, or does it get suction from the pump fitting to help move water?

The circulation pumps aren't really that expensive.
Why not just replace it while you are at it?
Problem solved.

Ok, i finished freaking out and my brain started working again. I ordered a large screw extractor and i'll drill a hole in it. If that don't work i'll order a new pump.

Mike,
There is a special tool designed for extracting those kind of plugs. I learned that the hard way as you have.
Don
