I have a friend that wants to change careers, He is in the process of aquireing his captains license so he can deliver yachts to people by sea, he currently is a truck driver for Roadway, once he put his mind to something he usually follows through, I'm excited for him, it would be a very cool job.

Delivery captain business is part time at best. Getting in with the yacht brokers is key.

And if I puchased a yacht in California, I would consider the costs of transport to the east coast. I would not consider sailing her here...

But $200,000 seems way overpriced, even if it's coast to coast.

It is absolutely unbelievable that someone who lives in this country can feel this way... This country was NEVER, I repeat NEVER, built on equality. What it was built on was opportunity for every person to succeed. I guess that I should not be surprised that there are people out there who think like you, after all look at who you voted in as the president. If I had to guess I would say that you are a union person that was overpaid for completely unskilled labor and ASSUMED that you had a job for life and then the union threw you under the bus for their own sake. I have been out of work for almost 19 months and I have NO interest in government bailouts or more correctly, handouts as they only serve to further the government's interest in making you more reliant on them. Sorry that the man has you down, but until you realize that you are the one keeping yourself down you are destined for...nothing.

Re: i think this is sad

I don't make alot of money, but its enough to keep beans on the table and have fun with the family. When I get paid I can do whatever I want with whats left over after bill and groceries. They should have the same perogative. Would I spend my money this way, NO!. But this probably a person who can make double the $200000 while the boat is being delivered, so it might be a money saving move to pay it.

This guy is not fluanting his wealth, the TV is doing that for him. And where exactly did all te money go that he spent on the boat and transport? Probably put food on alot of people's tables. I am all for giving money to help my fellow man, but let us not forget where we get that money to give.....for the most part from rich people.

Re: i think this is sad

Well said, Bad-boy. This entitlement attitude makes me sick. I am unemployed at this time too, but the last thing I want is anything from the government. I had my own business for the last 15 years. Fortunately my wife is successful and I anticipate being employed very soon because of hard work. This guy blames the wealthy for all his problems. The fact is that if wasn't for some wealthy / successful person above him he probably would not have had a previous job. This crappy administration has created such a bad business environment (and the worst is yet to come, unfortunately) that so many good people are out of work and really suffering, only in an attempt to make more people rely on governmentment to increase the power it holds over it's citizens. Don't get me wrong - I am not a total conservative and believe much of what Bush did over the previous 8 years was bad. The fact is, he is what drove the success of the new president because people did want change because he left such a bad taste in their mouth. Unfortunately the sheeple in this country are so stupid all they heard was change and they voted for it. They were too lazy and stupid to look below the surface at what this 'change' could be. Following this new 'change' it is likely the beginning of the end for the USA as we know it. This methodology cannot be sustained. Welcome to the beginning of socialism and or communism.

Off my soapbox now....

I'm not sure I should get into this discussion. But what the heck.

I don't think I see your point. So it's bad to make enough money to afford a boat? So, where do you draw the line? Why do you get to decide what is "sinful" for people to buy? Luxuries are bad? You obviously own a computer. And I assume you are a boater since you're posting here. So there's two things right there that you spent money on that aren't needs. Plus you're a bicyclist. I bet you don't do your camping on a Wal-Mart bike. How much did your bike cost? You get to own those, but can also decide when others buy too much? Why do you get to buy what you want and justify by handing out sandwiches to poor people but also get to decide what others can spend?

I'm unemployed too. But I've aways lived within my means, so when I lost my job I didn't have to start selling my belongings. Until I find a new job, I cam make enough money on side work here and there to keep a comfortable lifestyle. When I need money, I hustle and bust my butt and get it. Why should I feel guilty about that?

Re: i think this is sad

Thought I'd get a post in before the Mods wake up and lock this one. ;)
I don't think that the founding fathers (the Franklin, Jefferson, Hamilton, Adams era) had the same concept of equality that some define it to be now and days. These guys were fairly well off landowners and merchants, but they did not subscribe to the embedded and "God given" class system of England. If you weren't born into the upper class or nobility, gentlemen as you were, there wasn't any hard work or ability that was going to get you there in England.
That's where the opening "We hold this truth to be self-evident that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among this are life liberty and the pursuit of happiness", comes from (IMHO). You are born equal, e.g. not into a predetermined class, but the rest is a crap-shoot.

Now we can go off on how we have re-formed a class system (do you really think that your kids have the same opportunity for success as Bill Gate's kids?), but that would be an instantly lockable thread.

That said, I think those of us blessed and fortunate enough to have material wealth have an obligation to help those less fortunate. That's just my opinion, though, but it seems to be a repeating theme in a book I read a few times.... but it's a free country to do what you want to with yer cash!

That's fairly inexpensive when you considere the cost of operating those yacht.

You need a crew, supply, fuel, insurance, maintenance, and stress/use on hull-engine...etc...etc....

that why lot of owner/captain/brokers used transport company

i guess i didn't make myself clear. what i meant by saying sad, was that all that mony spent to let the boat sit and rot at a marina
