Are you sure? Think about HURRICANE season. That weather is nice but I don't think I would want to be there when the season gets here.

we were there this year when Gustav came thru. and unless a cat 4 or 5, hurricanes do more damage, on the mainland than the islands. the housing and buildings in the keys are built to with stand far more than mainland building. in the last 60 years we have ridden out many strong hurricanes in Jacksonville, just not many lately. Fay was not a Hurricane when it hit FL this past year, but did more damage, than a hurricane, do to it stalling everywhere it went.

i would rather ride out a hurricane, than those blizzards.

I watched an episode of Spanish Fly yesterday. They were showing Merit Island. I wanna move there, looked very nice.

If us Northerners/midwestern people moved to the Keys or South Florida it would cause a global weight shift reorientation that would result in a tilting of the Earth's axis thereby causing Florida to geographically shift to a cold climate zone resulting in us Northerners ending up in the same climate from which we had migrated.

no way would i go back, keys cruisers, pride parades, roaches (palmento bugs) trash all over the place, but great fishing and diving. now if i could just wall off my own island....... hmmmm

Yea I've heard about THAT,
I wonder if it's because THEY are the only ONES that can afford it!
My parents live in Port Richey have for over the last 20 yrs. they tell me not to even think about visiting Key West.

Unfortunately for me the following image is burned into my brain...

two middle aged men wearing cut off "hot pants" jeans with cheeks on display, wearing work boots, biker hats but no shirts with their tongues down each others throats right in the middle of main street.

And this was no "event" like a parade etc. Just in the middle of the day.

My poor wife about lost her very expensive lunch and we had to leave the next day. 7 day vacation cut to two.

It wasn't JUST that episode, the island seemed to be actually inhabited by them, shops owned by them etc.

i want to go to the lower middle keys, have no desire to go to Key West, even for groceries. when we spend the month in the keys, we go to key west just to go to home depot. then back to Little Torch Key. Big Pine Key for groceries, and the No Name Pub.

I have a friend that lives on Marathon key.... even he wont' go to Key West.

I think you've made a wise choice, the fishing is good all along the area, just better off key west as deep water is so close by.

Ever been to Kwajalein, TD? Now there is great weather and not too many people. No Wal Mart, either.

Bikini is even better and Eniwetok the best. The whole atoll is its own nightlight.

Marathon is nice, just offshore is the Sombrero reef awesome spot. As far as weather, it's been great by me in Bradenton just south of Tampa 80s in day 60s at night for the most part, nice for a fire.

My sentiments excactly, That's why I am still up here, waiting for everyone to move south so I can get to use some of that rotational effect (It is working already because we've had a wonderful few days well above freezing and today the sun is out melting the leftovers!
Talked my ancient ol' Mom and Dad (83 and 81) into going south to put more weight behind the idea and its working! (They're in Ft. Myers whooping it up with the locals ) Take care,

But the Northeners that didn't move would now be Eskimos. The Northeners that did move would still be Northeners in the new axis shift.

No way I'm moving to the gulf. I will have about 4 years in this boat restore only to move to a place I can't use the boat (too small). Let me know if they ever stock the gulf with largemouth, hybrids, and flathead cats and I'll think about it.

Well, they kinda did already.

Snook = largemouth on steroid.
Red = smallmouth on steroid
Tarpon = hybrid on lots of steroid
Shark = flathead on way too much steroid.
