Re: ice freeze up

Is it above the oil pan? It could effect the structure of the boat and not just the engine.

Re: ice freeze up

Let' put it this way the ice has filled the compartment beneath the motor it is all ice and yes from what I can see it is up over the oil pan and more
I did pull the oil dip stick out and the oil seem to be ok but there is a white residue All over the motor

If all I need is a starter I would be happy with that

Guess you didn't pull the plug or was it left in the water?

Is this a trailer boat? How Big?
If it is out of the water, the first thing to do is remove the plug and get the bow up so it will drain as it thaws.
Where are you that it is still frozen solid?

Lol I live in Maine were we had a very very cold winter one of the worst I seen in a long time. The boat is a 19 foot boat on a trailer plug was pulled for winter I also tarpped it but did not do a good job I guess the nose is in the air but maybe it was not high enough

All your flotation foam below decks will be saturated and water logged. If you winterized the motor and put the hoses back on along with the drain plugs then there should be no way for water to get inside the motor, just the starter and maybe the power steering pump if it got that high. All that weight can also cause problems for the hull and not to mention the trailer under that load.

We all had a super cold winter. 5 inches of snow just last weekend.
If the plug was out, there is no way you will get water up to the engine unless something was blocking the opening.
Do you have leaves or a lost rag floating around under there?

Hoping no damage trucker.....if plug was out and that much water still got in there, perhaps take a look at better tarp to keep moisture out.........

The plug hole will freeze up under the right conditions. I've got a picture somewhere of my FILs Malibu with an icicle hanging out of the lower drain.

+1
This happens to any boat with a leaky cover where I live. Waterfalls can freeze solid, so a little drain has no chance.

Re: ice freeze up

that happened to me last year the Engine actually took on water in the oil pan, no idea how unless it was going in through the crank seals

i sucked out 2.5 -3 quarts of water before i started sucking oil, also had water in the powersteering pump so look at that

i would suck the oil out and change it before i cranked the engine run for a few minutes and change it again

Re: ice freeze up

Hello again so after thawing the motor and going over everything to make sure there was no damage I started the motor after 7 or 8 tries I ran for about 30 second then stopped it i started about 4 more time after that. Now it is time to change the oil and plugs and get her Reading For The Season
