Re: Frozen!

Re: Frozen!

Local news is reporting the outside temperature is now at 33 degrees and we're about to dip into our first official freeze.

If I did it wrong, tonight is the night the block will crack.

Papa, You've probably seen these but thought I'd throw them out there.
When my girl was stored outside I stuck the heating pad on the oil pan and plugged it into this outlet.

We got our first big snow today. Looks to me like 6-8 inches. It's super wet and HEAVY, so after shoveling the driveway and sidewalks at home and waiting for my heart attack to subside, I went to check in on my big ole girl and see how the cover is holding up and shovel it off. I have 2x4's placed just so, then the real boat cover over that, then a big tarp over that. The cover and tarp are each tied down separately for double assurance.

When I got there, I was pleased to see everything was holding nicely:

I shoveled her off, gave her a little pat on the a** and said "sleep tight baby".

I consider myself lucky to be able to fit it into a garage for the winter. Just enough room to get some work done. The snow sucked today, it was so heavy that it burned out the belt on the snow blower.

Hi PaPa, I have the same hinge pins, and had to pull mine apart a few years ago, used reg nails, but would've been nice to have the proper stuff. If you can get the head off, they make drift pin sets that you can tape the nail through part of the way, I think I drilled the head off a bit so it wouldn't get stuff inside. The pin itself came out Ok, but we probably got lucky.

MerCruiser p/n 17-77361A1. 5/8 Pull Dowel & Nail

5/8 Dowel Puller # 1 for slide hammer, I like the #2 puller better, can apply some MAPP Gas if needed to.. MAPP if you dont know heats quicker and hotter than propane - yellow canister instead of Blue..

Yep! That's exactly the stuff I'm looking up today....

My hinge pins look different than ones one all the alphas and bravos I'm reading about here. Mine have threaded holes in the middle with a smaller hole off to one side. Is there some special tool for that style hinge pin?

I'm off to go RTFM now that I've asked the question....

Don't forget IO and OE

16" of snow today. Spent over four hours (total) behind a snowblower and I live on a 50' X 150' city lot. 30-below windchill tomorrow.

Named my boat today.

Re: I'm an owner! 1975 Islander 22

Well this last snowstorm collapsed the Metrodome, but not my boat cover. :D:D

I went to check on her today. Snow in the yard as I walked out to the boat was up past my knees. There had to be a solid two feet of snow sitting on top of the boat cover. I used a plastic shovel to clear it all off, visually checked the tight corners (where a rip would start if it was going to) and everything's holding up nicely. I'd say that's about as bad as she's gonna get all season (yes I am knocking wood) so I'm feeling good about her chances of survival.

The Vikings on the other hand? Not so much. Fine with me. GO PACK!!

I believe the owners of the Metrodome are probably looking to replace their engineers now. You should put together your resume and include a photo of your rig holding up against the snow load, you'd be hired in a flash man!
