Re: I'm an owner! 1975 Islander 22

The tanks won't fit the wide way, I only have about 20" or so to work with in that direction, but I don't wanna put 'em that way anyway. The filler is on the long side and the vent and outlet are on the short end:

So the starboard tank will be like I want - filler up against (maybe even inside of) the wall and the vent and outlet on the aft end. But that means to keep the filler against the wall on the port side, the outlet has to be toward the bow.

I suppose the real answer is to not let the tanks get low enough to have to worry about the ability to pickup that last bit of fuel. I don't plan on doing the full circle tour in this boat, I think 34 gallons should be plenty for the trips I plan on taking.

And I can always just pirate some fuel from Jason's floating gas station!

Order placed for fuel tanks. I should have them in my grubby paws this Friday!

Okay now where's the current best deal on fuel hoses? I see 6 bucks and change per foot for the filler hose here at iboats, and they're my first choice unless I can find a killer deal elsewhere.

THe best deal I could find is from NuWave Marine. They are on the east coast and on eBay.

If you buy local from the dealership, and pay way too much, you may need to...

(that pricing was for vent/supply, not fill)

Just sayin:D

It never fails - as soon as people find out you're in a band they start sending you their demo tapes....

Dood, I am totally that good too:D

Without question.

Come on down to the VFW in Waconia, MN this Saturday night and you can sit in with us. Would you rather sing "Back in the USSR" or "Margaritaville"?

Yeah it runs when I hotwire it - nothing is wired up yet, so the issue at the moment is wiring diagrams. But this is a 37 year-old motor. There will be further issues and that manual is gonna be needed.

TANKS!

You're welcome

Come on, I'm leaving you wide open here....

Papa - Those should work out great inside the seat boxes. I don't think the forward port fuel pick-up will cause any problems.

Well... now we need the manual for the specifics on adjusting the shifter cables. Had the boat floating on Lake Minnetonka for a good fifteen minutes today, motor running, but just WOULD NOT go into reverse. I'm sure the new lower shift cable I put in last year has stretched and just needs re-adjusting so no big deal, but I didn't have tools or information with me on the water today, so back on the trailer it went and we hung out at the beach instead - wife and daughter swam while my son and I pouted.

NEED THAT MANUAL!!!

But on the positive side, I have three more sheets of marine ply waiting for me at the local Menards. That should build some seat boxes over the top of those sweet fuel tanks, and we'll see how close I can get to new side panels too.

Maybe I'll improve my mood by doing some seat shopping tonight.

Did I mention I also found a new winter home for the old girl? Indoors, HEATED for about 40 bucks a month. Guitar player in my band owns the place so he's giving me a deal.

Dood, that's a big bummer!

I wish I could help ya with that manual but the one I have here is for the engines that are three on each side instead of 6 in a line, sorry bro!

Not to change the subject, but MAN have you come a long way! Two years ago, I read through your entire thread up to you making the transom (looks great, by the way!), and a couple of weeks ago, I watched the video of the Islander cruising! Just wanted to say congratulations! Great boat! and I'm glad you're running the old inline! cool!

PR - try this link for a manual 'til you get a real one. User ID is "marshall" and password is "public". BTW - this is part of an on-line public library. After you log on, go to "Small Engine Repair" and then "Marine/Boat Motors", then the "Mercruiser" link. I think the shift adjustments are under "Outdrive Service". These are PDF file and you can save them. Hope it helps until you get your manuals.

Great price on the heated storage. You can't find outdoor storage for that!

Got the manual! Thanks Santa!

Yeah it bummed me out a lot that day, but I'm over it. Having the manual again now and having been all over the shift cables last year, I'm not too worried about getting that sorted out.

Thanks MJ - it sure has been a long journey so far and it's a cool feeling to know there are people out there riding along with me. One of these days, I'm gonna go back and re-read the entire thread. That'd be a journey in itself.

Yeah the best price I found elsewhere for plain old fenced-in outdoor storage was $50 a month, so I know what a great deal this is. Theoretically since it's heated, I wouldn't even have to winterize the motor! Though I probably still will. I asked him if he has any kind of alarms that alert him if/when the heat fails and the temp drops below a certain point and he said no, so I'll just sleep better if I winterize anyway.

Speaking of which, it was 20 degrees in northern MN the other night.

I shot her an offer of 50 bux for the lot (including that nice Islander). She countered me at 100 and we split the difference at 75.

I'll see you this weekend PR!!!:eek::D:D

P.S. can you hit those bearings with a little grease for me? It's a long way back to middle Michigan. Thanks man, yur the best:D
